Time for Zambrano to bend the brim of his cap. Please, Vic, just a little. You look like you belong on the short bus. It looks cool on Dontrelle and Cameron. It looks ridiculous on you. Thanks in advance.

You know, I had this brillant idea the other day.

What if the Mets signed Clemens?

You mean sign a possible steriod using 43 year old pitcher who every Mets fan hates for 20 million dollars to play at most for 5/6 of the season? Definately brilliant.
   4. Free Rob Base Posted: May 01, 2006 at 10:04 PM (#1999192)
What if the Mets signed Clemens?

Piazza is rolling over in his in grave.
   5. Old Matt Posted: May 01, 2006 at 10:27 PM (#1999224)
Oh please, like you guys wouldn't rather have Clemens than Zambrano.
   6. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 01, 2006 at 10:46 PM (#1999250)
I'd rather the Mets finish last without Clemens than win with him. I mean that.
   7. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 01, 2006 at 10:59 PM (#1999270)
There is no way I would root for Clemens.
   8. Sam M. Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:11 PM (#1999305)
There is no way I would root for Clemens.

Ditto. I wouldn't watch a game Roger Clemens pitched for the Mets. No matter what was at stake. Ever.

My students are taking my Con Law II exam right now. I get to watch the Mets. Hee hee.
   9. Sam M. Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:16 PM (#1999322)
Then again, maybe I'd rather be taking an exam than watch Zambrano.
   10. Rob Base Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:17 PM (#1999328)
I wish Zambrano would start PWNing people again.
   11. Rob Base Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:18 PM (#1999330)
DRILL HIM.
   12. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:19 PM (#1999332)
Well, at least he got out of that, not that it looks like he's any better.
   13. Eric in Madison Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:26 PM (#1999362)
My students are taking my Con Law II exam right now. I get to watch the Mets. Hee hee.

Must you gloat? I have my first exam of the semester tomorrow (Crim. Procedure).

...And I'm still watching the Mets.
   14. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:27 PM (#1999363)
Two nice plays by Reyes.
   15. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:27 PM (#1999366)
Jose! Two nice plays!
   16. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:27 PM (#1999367)
Is anyone having audio problems with MLB.TV?
   17. Chris in Wicker Park Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:28 PM (#1999370)
Zambrano not looking too bad there.
   18. Banta Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:28 PM (#1999372)
That's the way you do it, Zambrano!
   19. Jersey Joe Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#1999380)
Is anyone having audio problems with MLB.TV?

I am getting that echo that happens sometimes.
   20. zack Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:30 PM (#1999383)
Yeah, I'm getting a terrible echo in mlb.tv. Did it yesterday as well but sorted itself out quickly.

Leave it to the bottom third of the Nats order to make anyone look good.
   21. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:31 PM (#1999387)
Not exactly murderers row he had to face, though.
   22. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:31 PM (#1999388)
Yeah, I was getting that too. I just closed the window and logged on again. Be careful not to do it too often too quickly because MLB.TV won't let you log on.
   23. Jersey Joe Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:32 PM (#1999391)
Everything sounds fine for me now.
   24. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:36 PM (#1999400)
Ortiz hit 96 on the gun? Yikes.
   25. zack Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:36 PM (#1999401)
What is up with Cliff? All his at bats I've seen he's had a great approach, worked the count and made solid contact...but with no results. Does he have a hitch or is he just terribly unlucky?
   26. Free Rob Base Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:39 PM (#1999425)
What is up with Cliff?

I am concerned its a health issue. Didn't he have some weird kidney problem or something in the preseason.
   27. Sam M. Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:43 PM (#1999443)
Must you gloat? I have my first exam of the semester tomorrow (Crim. Procedure).

...And I'm still watching the Mets.

Believe me, around about 9:30, I'll have to start grading 45 exams. My gloating days are almost over.
   28. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:44 PM (#1999450)
Thanks, Alfonso.
   29. Banta Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#1999451)
Yikes... and to anyone who forgets why people are down on Soriano at times, look at that last swing.
   30. Sam M. Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:45 PM (#1999453)
Soriano got really hosed on the 3-1 pitch. I don't blame him for swinging at the next one.
   31. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:46 PM (#1999459)
So far so good by Zambrano.
   32. Banta Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:47 PM (#1999463)
And X marks the spot!
   33. Eric in Madison Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:49 PM (#1999472)
Believe me, around about 9:30, I'll have to start grading 45 exams. My gloating days are almost over.

Boo Hoo. Speaking as a law student, nothing engenders less sympathy than law professors complaining about the exams they have to grade. And as a class, you guys seem to do it an awful lot.

Don't you just toss them down the basement steps and give out the grades based on where they land, anyway?
   34. Banta Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:50 PM (#1999473)
And some scattered "boos" for Matsui. Not many at all, but still. Those people should jump off a cliff.
   35. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:50 PM (#1999476)
Kinda sucks that Matsui got some boos there.
   36. Banta Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:51 PM (#1999483)
Ow, that's a rough spot to get hit.
   37. Sam M. Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:52 PM (#1999485)
Ortiz is melting down the way . . . well, the way Zambrano usually does.
   38. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:57 PM (#1999516)
Yick. Zero runs is not going to get it done, not nearly with Meltdown Zambrano surely on the way.
   39. Sam M. Posted: May 01, 2006 at 11:59 PM (#1999520)

Well, now. I prepare single-spaced comment sheets from 3-4 pages for every exam I grade. 75% or more of the students never bother to pick them up. But I do it anyway, because I figure that I owe every student the best comments I can make as I read his or her exam, not some cursory review months later when the student comes and ask, "Why a B-?" and I can't remember what I thought at the time.

When you take grading seriously, it is a difficult, time-consuming, and intensely tiring experience. So we grouse about it. But I'll say this: there are a disturbingly high number of my colleagues who do NOT prepare thorough comments, who don't seem to take it seriously (even if they do), and as to them I can't say I really blame the students for not being too sympathetic.

The AFLAC answer is, I believe, Orosco.
   40. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:04 AM (#1999544)
Lo Duca's arm is atrocious.
   41. Chris Dial Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:04 AM (#1999552)
WOW~! Beltran threw that ball about 60 feet.
   42. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:05 AM (#1999553)
At least Beltran hit the cutoff man.
   43. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:05 AM (#1999554)
That's ALL on Lo Duca. You HAVE to be able to throw out Nick Johnson, no matter what, on a strike 'em out, throw 'em out.
   44. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#1999561)
I think Beltran meant to hit the cutoff man. That ball wasn't hit hard enough for Beltran to make a play on Johnson.
   45. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#1999562)
Beltran threw that ball about 60 feet.

Hmmm, maybe he can pitch...
   46. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:07 AM (#1999565)
Well, walking the same Nick Johnson to start the inning certainly contributed.
   47. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:09 AM (#1999568)
Please now take advantage of the reciprocal leadoff walk.
   48. Chris Dial Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:13 AM (#1999580)
That ball wasn't hit hard enough for Beltran to make a play on Johnson.

If it weren't Nick Johnson, I might agree.

Even the Nats announcers said Beltran had a good shot at Johnson.
   49. Banta Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:18 AM (#1999603)
Thought that Cliff was gonna get robbed again there.
   50. Banta Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:20 AM (#1999611)
Alright, Matsui, let's show those haters!!
   51. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:20 AM (#1999614)
Come on, Kazuo. Win 'em over!
   52. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#1999619)
How come key situations always find Kaz no matter where he bats in the lineup?
   53. Banta Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:21 AM (#1999621)
That wasn't good, Kaz.

And then the look on his face... hopefully, this isn't the beginning of the downward spiral.
   54. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:25 AM (#1999634)
Hey, Paul threw someone out!
   55. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:26 AM (#1999638)
A rare good throw by Lo Duca.
   56. Chris Dial Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:27 AM (#1999647)
Seinfeld is at the game with George Wallace.
   57. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#1999657)
Thank goodness for the wind . . . .
   58. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:32 AM (#1999660)
Is Russ Ortiz not starting for the Nationals? I can't think of no other reason as to why the Mets haven't scored through four.
   59. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:36 AM (#1999676)
No, Russ Ortiz is not starting for the Nationals.

Ramon Ortiz is, though.

Yay, Soriano! Ugh, Reyes!
   60. Chris in Wicker Park Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:36 AM (#1999678)
What a joke.
   61. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:37 AM (#1999681)
Oy. Just . . . oy.
   62. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:38 AM (#1999685)
Darn, that was close to going out. If only Jose had stayed at second.
   63. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:39 AM (#1999688)
Jose, let's have a little talk, shall we? Aggressive is really good. But that was not aggressive. That was butt ugly. Come on, Carlos.
   64. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:40 AM (#1999695)
Good news is that Ortiz is tiring. Either that or the Mets are reading him better the 3rd time around.
   65. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:41 AM (#1999699)
Not getting the clutch hits, tonight.
   66. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:44 AM (#1999709)
Ryan Madson is getting hammered again tonight. Something to keep in mind with respect to Heilman.
   67. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:46 AM (#1999721)
I'm not used to this. Zambrano getting ahead of the hitters.
   68. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:47 AM (#1999729)
Something to keep in mind with respect to Heilman.

Maybe, but I think Heilman's change-up and command would make him a perfectly effective starting pitcher. Not as effective per-inning as he is in the pen, but quite good.
   69. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:49 AM (#1999734)
Allright! Delgado!!
   70. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:49 AM (#1999735)
Delgado!!
   71. Banta Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:49 AM (#1999736)
YEAH, DELGADO!
   72. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:49 AM (#1999740)
That's what you call POWER. Sheesh.
   73. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:50 AM (#1999747)
HOFer.
   74. zack Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:51 AM (#1999751)
Son of #####! The feed cut out, and when I get it back we're tied. Sheesh.
   75. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:52 AM (#1999753)
Isn't Madsen's changeup as good as Heilman's?
   76. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:54 AM (#1999764)
Aw no, Matsui.
   77. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:54 AM (#1999765)
Isn't Madsen's changeup as good as Heilman's?

Heilman's change-up <u>and command</u>. Madsen's never struck me as being consistent in his location and delivery. Very good when he's good, but . . . .
   78. Banta Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:54 AM (#1999767)
How come Valentin gets EVERY PINCH HITTING APPEARANCE?!
   79. AJMcCringleberry Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:55 AM (#1999770)
Kaz!

No, not Valentin!
   80. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:55 AM (#1999771)
Oh why oh why oh why would we send up fing Valentin?????
   81. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:55 AM (#1999772)
Like I said - Alright, Matsui!
   82. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:55 AM (#1999774)
Yeah, Good Kaz.
   83. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:55 AM (#1999775)
VALENTIN!?1?! WHY OH WHY?

And couldn't Matsui do that last time up?
   84. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:57 AM (#1999782)
Doesn't Madson have a wider variety of pitches as well?
   85. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:57 AM (#1999785)
I'd would've gone with Franco.
   86. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:57 AM (#1999787)
Valentin makes me long for Jose Offerman.
   87. Banta Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:58 AM (#1999790)
Well, that was Valentin's best hit ball of the year, though.
   88. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:58 AM (#1999792)
Sure, it was shaky at times and against the Nationals, but Zambrano didn't look too bad. Kind of like last-year Zambrano.

Wow, Valentin actually hit it hard.
   89. Sam M. Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:59 AM (#1999793)
Doesn't Madson have a wider variety of pitches as well?

That is not necessarily a good thing, depending on what the guy does with those pitches. Sometimes simple can be better. Two, three pitches, thrown effectively.
   90. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 02, 2006 at 12:59 AM (#1999796)
Soler today: 7 ip, 1 hit, 0 walks, 7 strikeouts. His overall ERA is 0.64
   91. Rob Base Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:02 AM (#1999809)
Is that Binghamton, RG?
   92. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:02 AM (#1999812)
Soler needs to move up. He's like Owens - just toying with that level of hitters.

Looks like Milledge has cooled down a bit. This is good - we'll see whether he can adjust.
   93. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:05 AM (#1999820)
What level is Soler at?
   94. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:07 AM (#1999826)
Soler's at High A.
   95. Russlan is not Russian Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:09 AM (#1999833)
Willis is getting hammered as well.
   96. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:09 AM (#1999837)
What the (*@*? Why is Livan Hernandez PHing?
   97. Chris Dial Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:10 AM (#1999844)
Just some nice managing from Robby. I'm glad it didn't work out, but I would have loved to see it work out against someone else.
   98. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:11 AM (#1999846)
Soler is still with St. Lucie. Word is that he'll be promoted soon.

Top of the order coming up. I like our chances.
   99. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:11 AM (#1999849)
Not sure who was the worst PH; Valentin or Livan.

Any way, good job of getting through the bottom of the order with Feliciano; now we have the good relievers for the next 4-5 innings, at least.
   100. Raskolnikov Posted: May 02, 2006 at 01:11 AM (#1999850)
I'm loving our bullpen.
