Baseball! The thirteen minute deadly was crucial in allowing me to finish watching Two Broke Girls

He hasn't had a lot to do but in the couple of throws he's made Crawford's arm has looked fine to me.
   3. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 07:37 PM (#4186579)
At some point these first inning shenanigans are on the pitching coach right? This is something systematic that is not being corrected?
   4. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 18, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4186598)
Seriously, someone tell me: do the Red Sox have a contract requiring that they give up run(s) in the first inning?
   5. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:06 PM (#4186604)
It sure as hell seems like it.
   6. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:43 PM (#4186625)
Freaking Yankees.

Hey, what's the lineup when the team gets healthy. (Ha.) I say:

Ells
Crawford
Pedroia
Ortiz
Gonzalez
Others

Still 4 lefties out of 5, but at least Ortiz appears to be able to hit lefties.
   7. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4186626)
Hey, do you guys all want to tell me how right I was about Tito messing with Crawford by jerking him around the lineup last year? Go ahead.
   8. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:48 PM (#4186629)
Only if I can tell everyone how right I was about Ramon Rami....never mind.
   9. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4186630)
And that lineup works for me.
   10. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:49 PM (#4186631)
BAP magic is working tonight.
   11. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:50 PM (#4186632)
"Taking off for 3rd is Ellsbury." Good job.
   12. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:51 PM (#4186634)
What's the call? The ump seemed to call time AFTER the pitch was delivered. That's weird.
   13. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:52 PM (#4186635)
Well that's a bizarre play.
   14. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:52 PM (#4186636)
Oh, still that's weird. Isn't the ump normally considered part of the field of play? Like if a grounder hits him or if a runner runs into him. Why is this situation different?
   15. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4186637)
Not sure I've ever seen umpire interference like that before.
   16. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:53 PM (#4186638)
I wonder if it's always on the ump or if they try to determine whether it was his fault.
   17. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4186640)
Rule 5.09(b) the ball becomes dead...the plate umpire interferes with the catcher's throw; runners may not advance.
   18. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:55 PM (#4186641)
Nice that they didn't call that ball 4.
   19. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:56 PM (#4186643)
FWIW Paul Konerko is the cover boy on my copy if the official MLB rules.
   20. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:56 PM (#4186644)
Gonzo!
   21. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4186645)
I'm just gonna keep typing.
   22. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4186646)
Yeah, this particular rookie is not working out for the White Sox.
   23. Darren Posted: July 18, 2012 at 08:57 PM (#4186647)
It'd be better if Pieryzynski was on the cover.
   24. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:13 PM (#4186661)
Why send the kid out for the fifth?
   25. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4186671)
He's not fast but Dunn is not as slow as I remember him, he seems to move reasonably comfortably.
   26. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:30 PM (#4186678)
Damn, I thought that was another dinger off the bat.
   27. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4186680)
Dunn has never been slow. He's not nimble, but he's really not slow. He stole a fair number of bases in his first few seasons, IIRC.
   28. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4186681)
Dunn stole 19 bases in his 2nd season, though he was caught 9 times.
   29. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4186682)
He's 60/83 in his career on the bases, which really isn't bad.
   30. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4186683)
I had this image in my head of him as a Gonzalez type on the bases, he's not.
   31. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:36 PM (#4186684)
Gonzalez seems to be hitting the ball with authority fairly consistently right now. Maybe he's actually turning his season around...
   32. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:37 PM (#4186685)
Prince Fielder is a faster baserunner than you'd expect as well, among guys who you'd expect to be slow as Gonzalezes.
   33. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4186687)
Youkilis was clearly causing Gonzalez' struggles.
   34. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4186688)
Youkilis is fewer than 70 points of OPS behind Middlebrooks now, despite the horrible start to his season. Obviously he's outproduced him vastly since the trade.
   35. Joel W Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4186691)
Crawford is just out because why play a guy coming back from injury in a blowout, right? RIGHT?

As to 34, it's a lot easier to up your OPS a lot in a short period of time when you haven't played at all.
   36. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4186698)
WHY THE #### ARE THEY INTERRUPTING BASEBALL TO SHOW A CLIP OF JERRY REMY BUTCHERING THE BEATLES????????????????????????????????
   37. Dan Posted: July 18, 2012 at 09:58 PM (#4186700)
Youkilis has more PA this season than Middlebrooks does. He had 165 PA before being traded. I don't see how that counts as not having played at all.
   38. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 10:09 PM (#4186713)
Regardless of the overall season line Youk has definitely outplayed WMB since the deal.

I'm not sure of the relevance though. The deal is made and I think we have close to unanimity that it was a bad deal. Beating it to death isn't particularly useful.
   39. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 10:12 PM (#4186715)
I can't imagine facing Andrew Miller in this spot is a lot of fun. Your down nine, you just want to have your AB and be done but instead you've gotta deal with a guy who is 6'7" and throwing mid to upper 90s while coming from the first base line and not really sure where it's going.

It's useful to remember it rather than gloss over it, I think.
   41. Jose Needs an Absurd Ukulele Concert Posted: July 18, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4186718)
Agreed, but I don't think anyone is glossing over it.
