I think you're reading something into this that isn't there. I strongly doubt that Dusty was saying that Pierre didn't have the strength or capability to hit it by the 3Bman.
Rather, Dusty was simply observing that when Pierre does hit the ball hard (whenever that is), if he can place it in the direction of 3B, it would keep the 3Bman honest, which would enable Pierre to be more successful with the bunt.
