I agree with everything except I believe Russell will break camp with the big club. I think the team views Marshall as a general purpose reliever and won't have any concerns about three lefties. Plus, there are no lefties in the rotation so the Cubs should expect to see lefty-heavy lineups every day.

It's very possible and probably the safer bet. I just wanted to get one complete wild card in there, since we seem to get one every year. If I go one step further on my prediction, I bet Russell is on the roster no later than May 1.

I expect Wells to work out of the 5th spot within two months (what can I say, I'm optimistic about the guy)

Agreed with #2 on Russell, but otherwise I'm on the same boat when it comes to the roster.

They had Perez restart switch-hitting so i expect him to start in Iowa and Johnson to be the 5th outfielder.

I think Silva starts on the DL with Cashner in the rotation with Russell taking his spot.

Sadly, I don't see Koyie missing the cut.

What's the 40 man situation? Wouldn't they have to cut/DL someone to get Johnson on the 40 man?

You think they'll stretch Cashner out and not use some other stop gap? I know Quade said they're going to have a 5 man rotation all year, so there will be a 5th starter.

My quick count has the 40 man roster at 39.

I plan on doing an optimistic and pessimistic list of predictions like last year.

Seems as though I must eat an angelfood cake.

Damn - you beat me 9-5-1 by my count, though it was actually closer than I expected - just a couple more starts by Z and missing Cashner's back to back 6 run blowups and it would have been 8-7.

Huzzah! I forgot about that, even though I linked that article.

Since most of the roster positions appear pretty set, it might be more fun to guess the sixth starter priority list. Now, assuming Wells and Silva are numbers 4 and 5 then here is how I see it:

Braden Looper (he is the sleeper with the best chance to make the roster, I think)
Chris Carpenter (getting up in years and the Cubs need to see what they have in him)
Cashner
Jay Jackson
Jeff Stevens

Moses,

I seem to recall Quade pretty much outright saying Cashner would be a starter at the Cubs Convention. Obviously things change, but indications seem to give him the leg up. I just hope it's not at Wells's expense.

Sign of the times: Got in for tickets around noon, and was able to get 4 opening day 400 level tickets.

Lineup: Castro, Colvin, Ramirez, Pena, Soriano, Byrd, Soto, DeWitt.

Best hitter on the team batting seventh. Sounds about right.

Sadly, I don't see Koyie missing the cut.

I laughed.
