I just realized Paul Sullivan addressed the issue of Pierre and rest yesterday. Although Pierre babbles on about not needing any days off, I don't think he's the one to make the call. Unfortunately, Dusty seems convinced.
Another problematic gooey clump in Dusty's fairy dust?
Among Dusty's strengths has purportedly been his skill in giving regulars off days -- and to his credit, the walking wounded and perenially hurt have seemed to stay relatively healthy and effective under Dusty... even beyond coaxing the 600 plate appearances out of Bonds ----
Moises Alou played 150+ games in his 2 seasons under Dusty for only the 3rd and 4th times in his career.
Ellis Burks - playing virtually without any knees - turned in a couple very nice, largely healthy seasons under Dusty.
Reggie Sanders had a nominally full season under Dusty.
Whatever tactical and mound woes - I always thought Dusty did well keeping his regular starting 8 healthy with timely days off...
But his insistance on keeping both Pierre and Jones in the lineup every day have me scratching my head.

It's different from the last couple of years, too. It seems like every 10th game or so the last 3 years we'd get a lineup that was half replacement players because Dusty was benching 4 or 5 starters at once for a day off. That was infuriating, essentially just giving away a game.
Now he's happy to give days off to guys like Walker who have been hitting, but Pierre and Jones get out there every day. Ugh.

It's especially maddening considering there are options to sit both - heck, BETTER options (if only because Neifi doesn't play OF) than even exist in the IF. In fact- you don't even have to *really* give Jones a day off... just sit him against LHPs as he should be (not that that's news to anyone here). Why Restovich wasn't platooning from day 1 is a mystery - well, maybe not so much... Can't have the fans knowing the big offseason FA acquisition was just a platoon player, can we?
