Looks like the "frontlog" is finally cleared out. I'll get a 2023 discussion thread up soon

I currently have 32 guys in my personal HoF that aren't in the HoM, with another three added next year. Berkman, Bell, and Munson were all bunched up. I'd assume two of them get in next year, along with Beltran. So that's the convincing that needs to be done by next year if one of those three guys is your favorite. None of the backlog is likely to be elected the following year with Beltre, Suzuki, Utley, and Mauer coming on together. Then two open spots with CC the following year. And 2026 is an elect four year with no new candidates likely to be elected. So likely half of the top ten will be elected in the next three elections. Personally, I'm most pulling for Munson, although I think he will be third on my ballot behind Beltran and Bob Johnson.

cookie, I believe Ichiro will also come on the ballot with Beltran, due to the token appearance rule. And now I see you have him the year following. So, never mind me.

Nice when I get 4 PHoM guys elected

Interesting to see Munson finish tied for 3rd place in "elect me" votes.

Ah, crap. That's what I get for maintaining radio silence, and not posting a prelim. I still have "8 PM ballot deadline" stuck in my head.

Don't worry about it, it wouldn't have affected the results, or who is in the Top 10.

Congrats to the winners, and thanks to the voters.

Sorry, Devin. 8PM deadline runs into too many other things for me.

Just a reminder - if you post a prelim at ANY TIME IN THE NEXT YEAR and ask to move it to ballot thread it will get counted.

Caps seem fairly easy - Pettitte is a Yankee, Sosa is a Cub, Abreu is Phillie. Alex Rodriguez is probably a Yankee too but Seattle at least has an argument.

If anyone is interested in writing up plaques we can get them added to the plaque room here:

Thanks to everyone who voted/participated in the discussion thread. Special thanks to the people keeping the project going (DL, krisg, ballot counters, etc.).

Since I know I'll copy my ballot this year to work on next year, I just put "THE BALLOT DEADLINE IS AT 5 PM" in large bold letters at the top. That better work.

Good set of electees this year, and tons of great discussion too!

Munson's surge is the other big take away - he very well could get elected in 2023 - I'm guessing it's tied to Schang's drop off (which I assume is due to segregation adjustments) but it's interesting to see nonetheless. Definitely someone to discuss this coming year.

As far as 2023 eligibles go - Dustin Pedroia, Brandon Phillips, and Troy Tulowitzki are all token appearances qualifiers. Ichiro's 15 games in 2018 is over the threshold, so he'll have to wait another year. I had Ervin Santana listed as another token guy, but apparently he pitched in 38 games last year, which shows you how much attention I pay to the Royals' bullpen. I don't think there are any other players of any notability who

David Ortiz is another one who could pop up into the top 3

I think there is a small error in the ballot tallies.

Kevin Appier is listed as having no 14th place votes, but he appears at #14 on Bleed the Freak's ballot.
Urban Shocker is listed as having two 14th place votes, but my tally indicates that he received only one 14th place vote, from Rob Wood.

I think Appier's vote was misassigned to Shocker in the tally, unless I've missed another Shocker vote somewhere. But Appier is certainly missing a #14 vote.

That one is my fault Chris, I swapped Shocker I'm for Appier after I had posted and made a note in a subsequent post, good catch by the ballot counters, congrats to the newbies!

Ah. I should have trusted their more careful tallies. Thanks for the clarification!

Youngest Hall of Merit inductee is still Johan Santana.

DL, thanks for posting the HOM site, but please point to the updated HOM site here: https://krisgardner6.wixsite.com/bbtf-hall-of-merit

The Google Site has various issues so I'm not updating it anymore. By the way, I'm trying to collect pHOM info from voters, so if anyone is willing to send me their pHOM info that would be great. List of players in pHOM and years of induction, plus list of players in HOM that they replace.

Sorry to have missed the deadline. I've had Covid, and nothing has gotten done for the last couple of weeks. My ballot would have made no difference in the results. The four elects had much higher numbers than #5. I would not have voted for Abreu (being forced to compare him to Lou Brock killed him; Brock was clearly better), nor Pettite, but I would have voted for Sosa, though probably not in the Top Four. I'll put the ballot together and post it to the 2023 Discussion Thread. Best I can do.
   21. DL from MN Posted: January 09, 2022 at 03:17 PM (#6060328)
Hope you're feeling better Brock. Looking at 2020 I don't think your ballot would have had a difference in the ordering except I don't know how much you like David Ortiz. Would Ortiz be on your ballot?
   22. DL from MN Posted: January 10, 2022 at 02:31 PM (#6060454)
If I counted correctly we had 36 players get an "elect me" spot on this year's ballot with 29 voters and that's with A-Rod getting 28 first place votes. I imagine we'll see something similar next year with Beltran soaking up 29 spots and the other 58 elect-me spots going to 25+ players. That means almost everyone has a "favorite toy" candidate. We're definitely not choosing from the extreme tail end of the bell curve.

Yeah, when you start getting deep in the backlog...you just explained why those guys are still in the backlog.

Is anyone interested in writing plaques for this election?

I have done so, DL. They're on the HOM site.
