Hall of Merit — A Look at Baseball's All-Time Best Thursday, December 10, 2020Mock Hall of Fame Ballot 2021IMPORTANT: Please read: This election should follow BBWAA rules, not Hall of Merit rules. However, we hope to see only players that each voter feels belong on their ballots. Leaving 1st-year candidates off your ballot is also frowned upon. IOW, we would like to see an absence of some of the silliness that permeates Hall of Fame voting by the writers. The election will end on Thursday, December 17, 2020 (1 PM EST). Results will be posted a short time later. Please don’t post any vote tallies on this thread. Here are some of the rules by the BBWAA that pertain to our electorate: 3. Eligible Candidates — Candidates to be eligible must meet the following requirements: 4. Method of Election 5. Voting — Voting shall be based upon the player’s record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. Candidate bios can be found here. Here are the players, in alphabetical order. Submitting a ballot in alphabetical order will help make tallying ballots easier. Bobby Abreu |

Pains me to leave off Tim Hudson but objectively I don't quite see him in the hall. Would love to vote for Andruw Jones but there's not enough there.
I'd start a team with Andruw and Nomar and Huddy that could take down a team of lower-tier HOFers.
Whereas it pains me to vote for Jeff Kent. I have nothing against steroid users as a group, but I do feel like his career has a profile that screams "steroid creation" - power spiking in early 30's for a 2B, come on. But I'm following the guidelines and voting for him based on performance.

If I had to vote for ten, I'd add Bob Abreu, Andruw Jones, and... maybe Pettitte? I don't think that Pettitte belongs, but the other two I'm not sure about.

Yes, I'm a small Hall guy. I thought about voting for Sosa, but I have no desire to vote for Manny and I didn't think I could vote for Sosa and justify leaving Manny off. So neither one gets a vote.

Small-Hall guy here. I hestitated before adding Schilling, but his control and post-season excellence push him over the top for me.
Abreu gets my vote as the most underrated and under-appreciated player of the 2000s:
10x 150+ games
4x .300+ BA
6x .400+ OBP
4x .500+ slugging
6x 40+ doubles
7x 20+ home runs
7x 100+ runs scored
8x 100+ RBI
7x 100+ walks
10x 20+ steals
2x leader in RF assists

I think that would be my ballot with or without the 10-man cap although there are 2 or 3 more that I could be convinced are Hall-of-Famers.

There are a few others who I would be at least reasonably comfortable inducting. Hudson vs. Buehrle for the last spot was almost a coin flip; I'm vaguely hoping to have their careers finished in my starting pitcher rankings before the next election. (Of course, it's possible neither of them will be on the ballot by then.)
