7th ballot appearance for Wagner. 6th for Lajoie and Cy Young. 5th for Crawford, Flick and Mathewson. 4th for Vic Willis.

Honus Wagner and Joe Morgan both have 7 appearances and 3 MMP awards.

DL already covered the basics for Honus Wagner. In addition, this is Wagner's 4th straight NL MMP and 5th overall (1902, '04-'07) and his 6th straight season as the top position player in the NL (1902-'07). That latter mark breaks a tie with Mickey Mantle for the most consecutive seasons as top position player in their respective league (Mantle won 5 straight from 1955-'59). However, Honus has a ways to go before catching Willie Mays for the most league-only position player triumphs as Mays collected 8 ('54-'55, '57-'58, '60, '62, '64-'65).

Ty Cobb won his first AL MMP, although I'm sure he'll add to that total before too long. Cobb is only the second Tiger to win the award, joining Alan Trammell in 1987 (Trammell, however, has one up on Cobb since he won the overall MMP that year as well).

Ed Walsh of the Chicago White Sox has won his first pitching MMP. Walsh is the first White Sock to win this award though Billy Pierce ('53, '55), Gary Peters ('63) and Joe Horlen ('67) won the AL-only version.

Christy Mathewson has won his third NL pitching MMP. Mathewson is perfecting the odd-year regimen, winning the award in 1903, '05 and '07. However, Mathewson is working backwards in one regard- he won the MMP in '03 and the pitching MMP in '05.

Finally, Danny McClellan has been named the top Negro League player for the second straight season. He was 9th overall in 1906 and 11th overall in 1907. As a team, the Philadelphia Giants have won the award for four straight seasons following Rube Foster's win in 1905 and Pete Hill in 1905.
