Most Meritorious Player: 1932 Ballot

For 1932 each voter should rank the top 10 players from all leagues combined.

Balloting is scheduled to close at 4pm EDT on 4 November 2020. Please let me know if you want your preliminary ballot counted as your final ballot.

Anyone can vote, even if you do not normally participate in Hall of Merit discussions. If you have never participated in an MMP election, just post a preliminary ballot in the discussion thread by 3 November 2020.

For detailed rules see one of our previous ballots.

1932 Ballot

1) Jimmie Foxx - best bat by more than a win
2) Carl Hubbell - NL has lower standard deviations in run scoring than the AL. This will boost NL candidates on my ballot
3) Babe Ruth - Postseason bonus isn't enough to get to the #2 slot
4) Satchel Paige - huge strikeout rate as he dominates the fractured Negro Leagues
5) Lou Gehrig - terrific World Series gives him a boost on the ballot
6) Chuck Klein - NL boost
7) Lefty Grove - best AL pitcher
8) Lon Warneke - not helped by his postseason
9) Mel Ott - Strong bat
10) Mickey Cochrane - having a good run of seasons here

11-17) Joe Cronin, Red Ruffing, Babe Herman, Dizzy Dean, Martin Dihigo, Bill Terry, Tony Lazzeri

Hi. Here’s Brock Hanke’s ballot. Hey! I got posting privileges to the Ballot Thread. The ballot itself has nothing remarkable about it that I can see. I put Satchel Paige in there at #6 because numbers 1-5 have very good consensus, and then it breaks up. I am sure that Paige belongs, and this was a good place to put him. Enough of this; here’s the list:

1. Jimmy Foxx
2. Babe Ruth
3. Lou Gherig
4. Met Ott
5. Lefty Grove
6. Satchel Paige
7. Bill Terry
8. Chuck Klein
9. Lefty O’Doul
10. Lon Warneke

Best NL pitcher is Lon Warnecke.

Official 1932 MMP Ballot (no postseason bonuses and a slight reduction for AL players):

1) Jimmie Foxx: Best ML player and first baseman.
2) Mel Ott: Best NL player and ML right fielder - not as good as Double X, but not too shabby.
3) Bill Terry: Best NL first baseman.
4) Babe Ruth: Best AL right fielder.
5) Lefty Grove: Best ML pitcher.
6) Lou Gehrig: Best iron man.
7) Lon Warneke: Best NL pitcher.
8) Mickey Cochrane: Best ML catcher.
9) Chuck Klein: Best player in a NL bandbox.
10) Lefty O'Doul: Best ML left fielder.

I'm usually Mr. Negro Leagues around here, but I'm not seeing it this year (though Satchel isn't that far off my ballot, FWIW).
