12 times on a ballot for Josh Gibson ties John Henry Lloyd for most by a Negro Leaguer. Gibson is the only Negro League player to win the MMP.

Man, if Gibson wasn't the greatest backstop of all-time, I don't know who was.

Yes Grandma, while there are many (most!) positions for which "who is the all time best" is a great debate... if I had to pick the most obvious, it would either be Babe in a corner outfield spot, or Josh behind the dish; leaning toward Josh!

I'm inclined to agree about Josh Gibson, but there is one point that is legitimate against him - he was a good, but not Gold Gove, defender, by all accounts from contemporary observers. If he's not the best catcher ever, then the catcher who is better than he is will be a Gold Glove with an outstanding bat. Berra, Bench, Buck Ewing, those guys. The bat won't be as good as Josh's, but the glove would be better. Having no idea how to tease catcher defense numbers out of Negro League stats, I have no way to quantify this.
