1. DL from MN Posted: June 23, 2021 at 12:24 PM (#6025936)Postseason bonuses didn't change anything
1) Josh Gibson - catchers who hit like Jimmie Foxx are really valuable
2) Bucky Walters - lots of innings and he could hit
3) Bob Feller - best pitcher but he didn't hit like Walters
4) Joe DiMaggio - best MLB position player
5) Johnny Mize - best overall bat
6) Buck Leonard - best NGL bat
7) Bobo Newsom - pitcher heavy ballot this year
8) Lefty Grove - short on innings but great rate stats in his last great season
9) Arky Vaughan - shortstop replacement value is terrible this season
10) Bill Dickey - postseason bonus but he already had this slot
11-15) Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Dolph Camilli, Ival Goodman, Martin Dihigo
16-20) Bill Byrd, Lonny Frey, Hilton Smith, Ken Keltner, Claude Passeau
1) Bob Feller - the best pure pitcher in baseball
2) Bucky Walters - hitting and pitching combined value by BRef slightly ahead of Feller, but pitching in way easier league allowed for some of the pitching bulk advantage. My rough adjustment for that basically makes him a value tie with Feller, in which case I chose to go with the better pitcher. fWAR also agrees with this ordering of them with Feller comfortably ahead on total value.
3) Joe DiMaggio - best position player
4) Josh Gibson - another monster season by the official data
5) Johnny Mize
6) Bobo Newsom
7) Jimmie Foxx - outside of DiMaggio and Gordon, a year for just pure offense in MLB, mostly
8) Ted Williams
9) Buck Leonard
10) Joe Gordon - ranks a bit better by fWAR than bWAR, makes a ballot in sophomore season
11-20) Bob Johnson, Lefty Grove, Dolph Camilli, Red Rolfe, Bill Dickey, Arky Vaughan, Ival Goodman, Mel Ott, George Selkirk, Lonny Frey
DL and I have a lot of unique players between us this year...just a note.
1. Bucky Walters (38)
2. Joe DiMaggio (34)
3. Johnny Mize (33)
4. Bob Feller (32)
5. Ted Williams (32)
6. Josh Gibson
7. Jimmie Foxx (30)
8. Red Rolfe (30)
9. Bob Johnson (29)
10. Mel Ott (28) (tied with Dolph Camilli)
DL and I (which means Win Shares) think more of the NL than kcgard2 does.
1. Bob Feller 9.19 WARR
2. Joe DiMaggio 8.94 WARR
3. Dolph Camilli 7.35 WARR
4. Bucky Walters 7.29 WARR
5. Johnny Mize 7.04 WARR
6. Josh Gibson 6.91 WARR
7. Joe Gordon 6.83 WARR
8. Ted Williams 6.75 WARR
9. Ival Goodman 6.59 WARR
10. Jimmie Foxx 6.30 WARR
Rest of top 20

17. Ted Lyons
18. Hal Trosky
19. Buddy Lewis
20. George Selkirk
1) Josh Gibson: Best ML/NeL player and catcher - beats out Joltin' Joe due to catcher bonus.
2) Joe DiMaggio: Best ML player and center fielder.
3) Bucky Walters: Best ML pitcher and NL player.
4) Bob Feller: Best AL pitcher.
5) Buck Leonard: Best ML/NeL first baseman.
6) Johnny Mize: Best NL positional player and first baseman.
7) Bill Dickey: Best AL catcher.
8) Red Rolfe: Best ML third baseman.
9) Jimmie Foxx: Best AL first baseman.
10) Mel Ott: Best ML right fielder.
Best NeL pitcher: Bill Byrd.
1. Joe DiMaggio, CF, New York Yankees: 184 OPS+ is 2nd in AL, +11 fielding separates Joltin' Joe from the field
2. Jimmie Foxx, 1B, Boston Red Sox: leads AL with 188 OPS+ and 149 RC
3. Johnny Mize, 1B, St. Louis Cardinals: 178 OPS+ and 154 RC lead NL
4. Bucky Walters, P, Cincinnati Reds: leads the NL with both a 170 ERA+ and 319 IP
5. Josh Gibson, C, Homestead Grays: 240 OPS+ is monstrous, but less playing time than most years keeps Gibson from being closer to the top
6. Ted Williams, RF, Boston Red Sox: 149 RC ties Foxx for AL lead; 160 OPS+ is 3rd
7. Bill Byrd, P, Baltimore Elite Giants: 10 complete games in 13 starts for 111 innings, 3.14 ERA and 137 ERA+
8. Roy Partlow, P, Homestead Grays: only 65 official innings but that 206 ERA+ sparkles
9. Bob Feller, P, Cleveland Indians: 154 ERA+ in 296 IP makes Rapid Robert the best pitcher in the AL
10. Bill Dickey, C, New York Yankees: 133 OPS+ to go with +3 fielding
