We're an agreeable lot of late. This is our third straight unanimous election, which is something we've never done before.

Musial joins a fine list of Cardinal MMPs: Bob Gibson ('68), Mark McGwire ('98) and Albert Pujols (2006, '08 and '09). Will he catch Pujols' franchise record of 3? He might just narrow the gap this year.

Josh Gibson just won his fourth straight Negro League MMP award. That breaks a tie with Rube Foster ('02, '03, '04). However, Gibson only did it with two franchises (Veracruz and Homestead) while Foster won 3 in a row with 3 different franchies (Chicago Union Giants, Cuban X Giants and Philadelphia Giants).

Luke Appling is the AL MMP. It's somewhat more impressive that Appling won as a White Sock than as a Short Stop. Previous SS winners include Phil Rizzuto ('50), Zoilo Versalles ('65), Robin Yount ('82), Cal Ripken Jr. ('83, '84, '91), Alan Trammell ('87) and Alex Rodriguez ('96, '02, '03) while Ed Walsh ('08) and Frank Thomas ('92, '94) are the only previous winners from Chicago's AL side.

Spud Chandler is this year's pitching MMP. That makes three straight seasons in which a non-HoMer has won the award, following Thornton Lee and Mort Cooper. Chandler joins Jack Chesbro ('04) and Ron Guidry ('78) as pitching MMPs from the Highlander/Yankee franchise. (Whitey Ford came close in '61 but lost to Warren Spahn in a tiebreaker.)

Finally, Mort Cooper is the NL pitching MMP. That makes back-to-back NL-only awards for Cooper who was also the overall pitching MMP in 1942.
