Mays and Aaron are currently tied for 2nd with 11 times listed on an MMP ballot. 6th time on a ballot for Mantle, Mathews, Musial, Berra and Roberts.

Newcombe, Banks and Johnny Logan make their first appearances on a ballot.

3 points separating the top two is the 3rd closest election ever. 1969 and 1961 were one-point difference.

Tubbs, who was your top NL pitcher?

HoM inductee Billy Pierce is this year's pitching MMP. He's the first White Sox pitcher to take the top prize, though Gary Peters (1963) and Joe Horlen (1967) won it the AL-only version.

Not that I've been voting for a long time, but I think this was the first ballot that I've put out that's all HoF'ers. Most ballots seem to have a few HoVG mixed in and one if not more mediocre to average players having the season of their dreams (Can we say Jeff Burroughs).
No real second-guessers here either, most of them are easy HoF.Four, maybe five depending how one views Matthews, are inner circle. Heck, the worst player of the lot was Ashburn and he has 63 WAR and is over the line in Black and Gray Ink and per JAWS is the 11th best CF in history.
That was one mighty fine season there, that 55.

Only two non-HoM received votes - Don Newcombe and Johnny Logan.

Huh. I'm the only one ho voted for Johnny Logan. Yet, when I sorted out the ordinals, Win Shares thinks that Logan is the #13 player in the game. So does BB-Ref WAR. 13th is high enough that a guy who finishes that high in BOTH the ordinals ought to make the top ten. And he does, albeit in the tenth spot. Robin Roberts would be my #11, because his ordinals (WS=12, WAR=15) add to 27. Teddy Ballgame and Roy Campanella (28) could also demand a recount, but beyond those three, no one is particularly close to Logan. I concluded that Logan was, in fact, the #10 player in all of baseball in 1955. - Brock

Tubbs, who was your top NL pitcher?

My top NL pitcher was Robin Roberts
   10. Qufini Posted: July 10, 2014 at 10:28 AM (#4747838)
Thanks, Tubbs. Roberts led Newcombe on the actual ballot (16 pts to 6) and on the off-ballot tally (5 to 4 Roberts over Newcombe, + 2 others) but I thought I'd check with everyone before making any announcements. That being said, Roberts is the NL pitching MMP for the fourth time in five seasons. Will Newcombe (or anyone else) be able to break through next year?
