You left off Ripken. Cal went back to back in '83 and '84.

Edit: Yaz also won 2: 1967 and '70.

Congratulations to Mickey Mantle on his first- but not last- MMP. As DL noted, he's already won for 1961 (and he looks pretty good for 1957 based on the current discussion thread). In addition to his two MMPs, Mantle was also the top AL player in both '55 and '62.

Thanks. I overlooked Yaz but didn't have Ripken marked correctly.

Congratulations to Early Wynn on being named the pitching MMP for 1956. Wynn finished second in the voting in a bit of surprise, sneaking ahead of position players Berra and Snider. This is Wynn's first pitching MMP. However, he also won the AL-only version of the award in 1951 and '54- though he needed run-off victories both times.

Congratulations to Duke Snider on winning the NL MMP. Snider beat out Hank Aaron and Willie Mays for his first award. The NL MMP has been almost exclusively a New York City affair in the 1950s. Philadelphia's Robin Roberts (1953) is the only winner so far who didn't play for either New York or Brooklyn. The two rivals are tied 3 to 3 in this decade with Eddie Stanky ('50) and Willie Mays ('54, '55) winning for the Giants and Jackie Robinson ('51, '52) and Duke Snider ('56) winning for the Dodgers.

Congratulations to Don Newcombe on being named the NL pitching MMP. Newcombe ended Robin Roberts' five year streak (1951 to '55) while beating out Johnny Antonelli and Warren Spahn. Newcombe joined an illustrious club of Dodger winners: Sandy Koufax ('63, '65, '66), Don Drysdale ('64), Fernando Valenzuela ('81), Orel Hershiser ('87, '88) and Clayton Kershaw ('12, '13 and counting).
