Congratulations to Barry Bonds! This is only the third time in MMP history that a player has won unanimous MMPs in consecutive years: Mickey Mantle in 1956 and '57, Barry Bonds in 1992 and '93, and now Barry Bonds again in 2001 and '02.

Congratulations to Randy Johnson on winning his second straight pitching MMP. Johnson joins an elite group of consecutive winners that includes Christy Mathewson, Robin Roberts, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Dave Stieb, Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux and Pedro Martinez.

Congratulations to Alex Rodriguez on winning his second AL MMP. ARod previously won in 1996. This is also the third time that ARod has finished 2nd in the overall voting following 1996 and 2000 when he lost out to Barry Bonds and Pedro Martinez respectively.

Finally, congratulations to Derek Lowe. Lowe beat out his Boston teammate Pedro Martinez to be named this year's AL pitching MMP.

Interesting to see how many ballots Nomar has appeared on as compared to The Greatest Captain of All-Time*.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Jeter's been on two so far, and '06 and '09 will make 4.

Meanwhile, Nomar has appeared 5 times, and will probably even get a 6th in 2003.

Jeter is certainly a HOFer and one of the greatest compilers we've seen, but he really only dominated in a few seasons, and then was fairly decent in a dozen others. Nothing to sneeze at, I know, but not the storied career some would assume. I suppose this depends on how drastically you dock him for his shoddy SS work, but still.

Yes, Jeter has only made ballots in 1998 and 1999.

Most ballots for SS

Honus Wagner 11 *not finished with his career yet
Cal Ripken Jr 8
Barry Larkin 7
Alan Trammell 6
Ernie Banks 6
Ozzie Smith 6
Alex Rodriguez 5*
Dave Concepcion 5
Nomar Garciaparra 5*
