I was a little early last year when I said that Bonds had tied a record held only by Honus Wagner as Ty Cobb and Mike Trout have also won three straight MMPs. However, Bonds has now tied a record held only by Honus Wagner as they have both won four straight MMPs. Congratulations to Barry Lamar Bonds on this outstanding feat!

As DL noted, this is Bonds' 7th MMP overall. He has also been NL MMP 10 times and NL position player MMP 11 times.

Congratulations to Johan Santana who is both the pitching MMP and the AL MMP for 2004. Santana is the first Twin to win the pitching MMP in the history of the award so far. He joins Zoilo Versalles ('65), Bert Blyleven ('73) and Rod Carew ('77) as Minnesota AL MMPs.

In the closest battle of the year, Ichiro Suzuki beat out Miguel Tejada for AL position player MMP. Ichiro is the 4th Mariner to garner this honor joining Edgar Martinez ('95), Alex Rodriguez ('96 and '00) and Ken Griffey Jr. ('97).

Finally, congratulations to Randy Johnson on being named the NL's pitching MMP for 2004. Johnson has earned top marks in the NL 5 times ('99, '00, '01, '02 and '04) and in the AL once ('95).
