Most Meritorious Player: 2005 Ballot

For 2005 each voter should rank the top 15 players from all leagues combined.

Balloting is scheduled to close at 4pm EDT on 5 July 2017.

Anyone can vote, even if you do not normally participate in Hall of Merit discussions. If you have never participated in an MMP election, just post a preliminary ballot in the discussion thread by 4 July 2017.

For detailed rules see one of our previous ballots.

Well, here's Brock Hanke;s ballot for 2005. What looked like it might develop into better consensus between Win Shares and WAR just broke down, for whatever reason. The worst is Derek Jeter. Win Shares has him as the #7 player in the game; WAR has him at #69. That's the worst, but there are others, and they are not just WAR overrating pitchers. It's all over the position players, too. Anyway, dong the best I could with this disconnect, I have the following ballot:

1. ARod
2. Albert Pujols
3. Derek Lee
4. Mark Teixeira
5. Brian Roberts
6. Chase Utley
7. Andruw Jones
8. Jason Bay
9. Morgan Ensberg
10. Vlad Guerrerro
11. David Ortiz
12. Rafael Furcal
13. Roger Clemens
14. Dontrelle Willis
15. Miguel Tejada

Andy Pettite: Best AL pitcher.

The Astros were in the NL that season and Pettitte was an Astro.

Yep. My mind was still on Yankee time, I guess. :-) Replace him with Johann Santana at #15 please, Dan.

Final ballot-no postseason credit but some small credit for playing for a Division-contender
Interesting year--weaker pitching performances in AL, much stronger in NL.

1. A Rod--clear cut #1 for me
2. Pujols--easy #2. With Bonds' injury, Pujols and A Rod are the two best players in the game
3. Lee--kind out of nowhere career year
4. Utley--edges out Tex for #4
5. Teixeira
6. Willis--barely beats Carpenter for top pitcher, could go either way honestly but bat sees to it that he is ahead
7. Carpenter
8. Andruw Jones--lower BA/OBP keep him from challenging for top 3
9. Clemens--less innings & not completing games hurt standing as well as win total
10.Roberts
11.Ensberg--anchored weak Houston offense, along with World Series rival at 3B Joe Crede, just kinda vanished
12.Santana--top AL pitcher in a weak year for Junior circuit hurlers
13.Ortiz
14.Pettitte
15.Oswalt--three Astros pitchers make top 15

Honorable mention or close:
Vlad, Hafner, Miggy, Bay, Manny, Pedro
