My ballot wouldn't have changed any of the results, but I did post my ballot in post #9 - it just seems to have not been counted.

Sorry, I added your ballot and it did change the ordering. It also added a ballot appearance for Russell Martin (#3 for him).

As DL noted in the intro, this is Albert Pujols' 2nd MMP. This is also Pujols' 3rd NL MMP as he won the 2005 award when Alex Rodriguez took home top honors. Currently, Pujols and ARod are trading the award with Rodriguez winning in '05 and '07 and Pujols winning in '06 and '08. Can ARod reclaim it in 2009?

Tim Lincecum is your 2008 pitching MMP. Lincecum is the first giant to win this award since Christy Mathewson in 1909. Though I suppose Carl Hubbell has a shot at filling the gap as we've yet to vote on 1912-1949. (Toothpick Sam Jones won the NL only award in a 1959 run-off).

As DL noted in post #1, Joe Mauer is the top position player in the AL despite finishing 12th overall. That breaks a record set by Elston Howard who finished 11th overall the year he won this particular award (1963).

However, Joe Mauer was not the AL MMP. That honor goes to Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians. It's been a good decade for AL pitchers with Pedro Martinez in 2000 and Johan Santana in 2004 and '06 winning the league award.

Thanks DL.

Either some of us are overrating catchers (I doubt that) or some are underrating them (most likely, IMO).

BTW, it needs to be said once again: thanks to Dan and Chris for their efforts here!

I think we underrated the AL (who beat the NL interleague by a good margin) and catchers.

Possibly, though that might be a function of the DH rule helping the junior circuit more, while the senior circuit pitchers don't hit as well as they used to to make up the deficit.
