Congratulations to Mike Trout, the 2014 MMP. Trout is the first player to win three consecutive MMPs though he has a ways to go to catch Willie Mays' career record. Jackie Robinson, Mays, Mantle, Morgan and Cal Ripken Jr. are the others to have won back-to-back MMPs to date.

Congratulations to Clayton Kershaw who won his second consecutive pitching MMP. Kershaw joins five HoMers- Roberts, Koufax, Gibson, Stieb and Clemens- as back-to-back winners. Kershaw is also the NL MMP, holding off defending champ Andrew McCutchen by a narrow margin. Kershaw is the 8th pitcher to win the NL-only award following Roberts ('53), Koufax ('63 and '66), Gibson ('68), Seaver ('71), Carlton ('72), Gooden ('85) and Scott ('86).

Congratulations to Corey Kluber, who beat out Felix Hernandez for the AL pitching MMP. Kluber is the 4th pitcher from Cleveland to win the award after Early Wynn ('51, '54, '56), Sam McDowell ('65, '70) and Gaylord Perry ('72, '74).

Congratulations to Andrew McCutchen who was named the NL position player MMP for the second straight season. McCutchen couldn't defend his league crown but he finished a respectable 3rd overall, tops among NL position players. McCutchen is the first back-to-back winner since Mike Schmidt won 3 straight from 1979 to '81 (though we haven't filled in the gap from 1989 to 2011).

Finally, congratulations to Wade Davis who joins a select group of relief pitchers to play well enough to be named on a ballot. However, Davis is not the first set-up guy to receive that honor. In fact, the last relief pitcher to make an MMP ballot was set-up submariner Mark Eichhorn in 1986.
