THT: Scouting The East Cobb Braves: Part 1-The Hitters

A little video scouting report on some of the members of the 2008 Draft Class…

“I have little doubt that Hightower will be one of the top catchers in next year’s draft, very little doubt.”

If the Braves go after Hightower in the draft and sign him, they'll have one of the most pleasant dilemmas in baseball: Three high-potential, incredible backstops. It might be folly to go after him considering they already have McCann and Salty, but in a draft I think it's better to take the best talent out there, whether you're loaded or not. ...Hey, if they had these three catchers, they should be able to spin at least one or two for a genuine, major-league first baseman! I don't think the Braves have had a legitimate lineup threat at first base since the days of McGriff and Galaraaga.

I like the analysis on those three kids. (I need to make a list of prospects to keep an eye on, and these guys should go on that list.) Good stuff as always.

Martin's swing at first look here looks a lot like Pujols. Spread wide, 6'3 frame, huge bat-speed. Pujols is quicker, but I really see a resemblence just on a first glance.

Update: East Cobb Braves win the BCS 18 and under championship in Fort Myers. in the championship game, they beat a team that included Matt Harvey, the Angels' 4th rounder that fell because of Bonus demands. MVP of the tourney? Ethan Martin. Hightower and Workman performed well too.

Considering he's just a junior in High School, if the Braves draft him and he develops, he should be ready about the time McCann and Salty are close to free agency.

Draft him (Hightower) and flip Saltalamacchia for Teixiera (who's name is more difficult to spell than Saltalamacchia.) Joel's right. The Braves have gone nearly a decade without a real 1B, Adam Laroche's 2006 being the only great season in a trend of mediocrity and crap.

It's Teixeira.

Workman's swing reminds me of Craig Biggio, FWIW.
