Evan Gattis Confirms He Is “Done Playing”

Burly backstop-turned-DH Evan Gattis confirmed that his playing career is now finished in an appearance on the 755 Is Real Podcast with The Athletic’s David O’Brien and Eric O’Flaherty (audio link; profanity warning). The 33-year-old says he’s “done playing” professionally.

This news was obviously expected. Gattis did not play in 2019 after wrapping up his tenure with the Astros. Last we heard, he was not seeking playing opportunities. His productivity waned in 2018, though surely Gattis would’ve caught on somewhere had he pursued a deal.

Houston Astros 2017 World Series Champ Evan Gattis Takes Shot at Mike Fiers With Twitter Photo

Mike Fiers knew he’d face criticism from his former Houston Astros teammates, but he just couldn’t continue living a lie. This winter, Fiers revealed to The Athletic that the Astros illegally stole signs via cameras and trash cans during the 2017 season. As everyone knows, that was the very year Houston won the World Series. The end result saw the MLB find the Astros guilty of these claims, and those very players go on the defensive against Fiers.

Take Evan Gattis for example. The retired MLB catcher was on the 2017 Astros team that netted him his first ever World Series ring, albeit tainted.

On Friday, Gattis posted a photo of a Fiers-inspired Pilsner glass he purchased from Houston sports bar, The Flying Saucer. That glass had Fiers’ likeness on it with the quote “Snitches Get Stitches” underneath.

Charming fellow, isn’t he?

Astros Announce First Pitch Participants Ahead of World Series Game 1

Before the Astros officially kick off the final chapter of their march to a second World Series title in three years, they’re bringing back a few old friends.

As Gerrit Cole prepares to stride to the mound and take down the Nationals, he’ll have two trusted friends—and the baddest man in the NFL—to keep it warm.

Evan Gattis will squat behind the plate one more time at Minute Maid, and will surely call for a curveball from…Brian McCann.

We’ve been discussing in another thread who the National should have do this honor- here’s who the Astros are employing in Game 1 for comparative purposes.
