MLB jerseys to be made into masks for medical workers fighting coronavirus

MLB team jerseys are being made into a million protective masks to support medical workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. The announcement was made on Thursday by MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and Fanatics mogul Michael Rubin, whose apparel company makes jerseys for the league.

Rubin’s Fanatics brand is the licensed apparel partner of all major sports leagues. It makes the MLB jerseys in a 360,000-square-foot plant in Easton, Pennsylvania.

He posted on Instagram of the idea to create the masks from the same material as the authentic baseball gear: “Woke up in the middle of the night last week with idea of converting our [Fanatics] factory in PA that makes official @MLB jerseys into a facility that makes much needed masks and gowns and then donating them to help fight this horrendous virus.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and attorney general Josh Shapiro each had contacted Rubin saying they needed support in supplying medical pros.

Derek Jeter’s game-worn jersey from Yankees debut breaks auction record

The love for New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter has not diminished at all among Yankees fans since the former captain’s retirement in 2014. It seems that now more than ever, as he is set to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, people want to get their hands on Jeter memorabilia—and they are willing to hand over a lot of money to do so.

On Monday, the jersey that Jeter wore in his first ever game sold at an auction and became the most expensive item purchased in the modern era, according to CBS New York.

Who can explain it, who can tell you why…..

SportsLogos.net - NEW Brewers Ball-in-Glove Logo for 2020

It’s been rumoured for years, but now it appears to be finally happening. The Milwaukee Brewers are returning to their classic “Ball-in-Glove” logo full-time for the 2020 season.

Thanks to a preview of a new Topps Baseball Card set, we got our first look at the new Brewers logo late tonight. The logo, shown on the lower-left corner of a “Bernie the Brewer” mascot card features the classic logo now in a darker blue and placed inside a circle. The team name “MILWAUKEE BREWERS” surrounds it in white and the circle outlined in yellow.

St. Louis therapy dog makes good on NLCS wager, reps Nationals gear

Friendly wagers are one of the best parts of sports. They’re even more fun when they involve two very good boys.

Thor, a black lab therapy dog from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, challenged Tabby, a German Shepherd therapy dog at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., to a friendly bet on the Nats-Cardinals NLCS best of seven series. The bet was settled not too long after it began.

Since the Nationals swept the Cardinals, Thor had to wear a Nationals’ bandana to work, courtesy of Tabby.

Sports bets gone haywire- they’re not just for humans!

Angry Dodgers fans run over Clayton Kershaw jersey after NLDS loss

Los Angeles Dodgers fans did not handle their shocking National League Division Series loss well. Following the game, some fans thought it would be appropriate to run over a Clayton Kershaw jersey in the parking lot.

The moment was captured on video by LZ Granderson of the Los Angeles Times, who decided to run over the jersey.

Kershaw was one of many Dodgers scapegoats from Wednesday’s game. The 31-year-old Kershaw came on in relief with the Dodgers up 3-1 late in the game and gave up back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning that tied the game. The Dodgers went on to lose 7-3 in the 10th inning.

Kershaw wasn’t the only person responsible for the loss. Reliever Joe Kelly gave up a grand slam to Howie Kendrick in the 10th that gave the Washington Nationals the win. Manager Dave Roberts was responsible for leaving both Kershaw and Kelly in the game.

This sort of thing feels like something that will backfire on the fandom sooner or later, doesn’t it?
