The Detroit Tigers’ 2021 rotation continues to take shape as the team added a veteran starter in right-hander Jose Urena on a one-year, $3.25 million deal.

A source with knowledge of the deal confirmed the signing to the Free Press on Wednesday, and the Tigers later announced the move.

Urena was non-tendered by the Miami Marlins earlier this month after six seasons in the big leagues and five starts in 2020.

“Once José became available, we had him identified as a player that could come in and help our ballclub win games,” Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a released statement. “We’re excited to add his experience pitching at a high level, and know he’ll contribute to our young staff in significant ways. José has a great ability to navigate a lineup and limit damage, while keeping his team in the game, which is exactly the stability we’re looking for heading into the 2021 season.”

The Miami Marlins today acquired RHP Adam Cimber from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for cash considerations.

In his third Major League season, Cimber made 14 appearances for Cleveland in 2020, going 0-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 11.1 innings with only one home run allowed.

He pitched in a team-high 68 games for the Indians in 2019, going 6-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 56.2 innings….

In order to make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Jose Ureña was designated for assignment. Miami’s Opening Day starter in 2018 and 2019, Ureña pitched in six seasons with the Marlins and is 12th in franchise history with 406 strikeouts and 13th with 98 starts.
