Iconic Louisville Slugger maker is in a coronavirus slump thanks to shuttered factories

The outlook isn’t brilliant for Hillerich & Bradsby.

With its museum and factories shuttered, the maker of wooden Louisville Slugger baseball bats, one of the city’s most iconic brands, has no revenue coming in, Hillerich & Bradsby CEO John Hillerich IV told The Courier Journal.

The fifth-generation owner of the venerable company has been forced to furlough 171 people, the vast majority of his workforce. That means employees will still receive benefits like health insurance, but won’t get a paycheck. The rest are taking a 25% pay cut.

“We’re not doing any advertising. We’ve cut all our expenses we can. We’re just hoping we get back to normal before we run out of cash,” Hillerich said.
