Rendon, Betts, Cole among baseball’s big offseason movers

Anthony Rendon won a World Series in Washington and then left the Nationals to join Mike Trout and Albert Pujols with the Los Angeles Angels. Gerrit Cole went to the New York Yankees to try to put them over the top.

Mookie Betts, the 2018 AL MVP, and two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber were shipped out by cash-cutting teams.

It’s been an active offseason for some of baseball’s biggest names.

There were a few, like World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg and Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez, who decided to stick with the same teams. But for those who didn’t, here’s a scorecard to help you keep track of the offseason comings and goings

For those who’ve lost track of the major deals of the off-season, the list again, in summary form.

$165 million later, Reds see themselves as a contender

CINCINNATI (AP) — Manager David Bell hears the buzz around town. Reds fans who haven’t had much to cheer for six years are ruminating not only about a return to winning, but a spot in the 2020 postseason.

A $165 million spending spree changed everything.

Cincinnati was one of the biggest players in the offseason, overhauling its everyday lineup with the two biggest free agent deals in club history. Mike Moustakas, Nick Castellanos, Wade Miley, Shogo Akiyama and Pedro Strop were brought aboard to end a streak of six straight losing seasons.

When fans fill Great American Ball Park for the season opener against the rival St. Louis Cardinals on March 26, they’ll be expecting nothing less than the start of a run at the NL Central title.

So, how much of this optimism is merited?

Sources: Mike Moustakas agrees to 4-year, $64M deal with Reds

Infielder Mike Moustakas and the Cincinnati Reds are in agreement on a four-year deal worth $64 million, league sources tell ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Moustakas, who turned 31 in September, was a free agent for the third straight offseason after earning $18.7 million in a pair of one-year deals.

He hit .254 with 35 homers and 87 RBIs last season for the Milwaukee Brewers, earning his third All-Star selection. After starting the season at second base, he moved to third when Travis Shaw slumped.

The Reds plan to play Moustakas at second base.

Someone here will be awfully pleased by this news…..
