Former MLB player Juan Encarnacion accused of sexually assaulting daughter

Former Major League Baseball player Juan Encarnacion has been accused of committing sexual assault against his daughter, the attorney general’s office in the Dominican Republic’s National District province has confirmed.

Encarnacion’s daughter is a minor and the child’s mother said that Encarnacion sexually assaulted the girl in May, when the complaint occurred.

The National District attorney general’s office also confirmed that the player is in custody at the Palace of Justice in Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, and that Encarnacion will be presented before a judge on Saturday afternoon.

According to a report published by Dominican newspaper Diario Libre, Rosalba Ramos, the head of the prosecution, pointed out that the authorities requested a year of preventive detention against the former player.

Former Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison for sexually assaulting teen

Former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez on Tuesday was sentenced to two to four years in state prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in August 2017.

Vazquez, 30, received credit for 23 months time served during a hearing before Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Scott O. Mears, according to Vazquez’s attorney Gary Gerson. The hearing began at 9 a.m. and lasted 1½ hours.

Mr. Gerson said the prison sentence is for the statutory sexual assault counts, and that Vazquez received concurring sentencing for all other counts.

“He’s been incarcerated 23 months today,” Mr. Gerson said Tuesday. “Eventually he will be transported to the Department of Corrections processing center in Camp Hill. In one month, [Vazquez] will be at his minimum sentencing eligible for parole, and, of course, he’ll have to have a parole hearing and things of that nature.

“The unknown is what Florida wants to do with his prosecution, and whether they want to do that sooner or later. I don’t know.”

Dodgers star Trevor Bauer, on leave amid assault probe, was subject of previous protection order

A police report obtained by The Post shows that in 2017, during an incident at Bauer’s apartment, the Ohio woman attempted to show officers photos of injuries to her eyes that she said were caused by Bauer, who played for Cleveland at the time. The police arrested her for underage drinking. (The woman was an adult but not of legal drinking age; The Post is not specifying her age in order to not disclose identifying details.) There is no indication in the report of what, if anything, police did to investigate her allegations.

The Post also obtained copies of messages Bauer allegedly sent the woman, which her lawyers said prompted her to seek an order of protection. “I don’t feel like spending time in jail for killing someone,” reads one. “And that’s what would happen if I saw you again.”

The Ohio woman’s allegations, which have not previously been reported, pose a new test for Major League Baseball, which is investigating Bauer over the California woman’s assault claims and is grappling with other allegations of mistreatment of women by players and coaches. Before Bauer was put on paid leave last month, he was one of baseball’s top stars, having won the Cy Young Award as the National League’s best pitcher in 2020, the same year the Ohio woman sought the order of protection. In February, he signed a three-year, $102 million deal with the Dodgers that includes $40 million in 2021, the highest single-season salary in MLB history.

In a statement to The Post, Bauer’s lawyer and agent, Jon Fetterolf, and agent Rachel Luba called the allegations of physical abuse against Bauer “categorically false.” They questioned the validity of the photographs, which they said were provided “years after the alleged incidents and with no corroboration,” and the threatening messages. They have called the California woman’s claims “baseless” and “defamatory.”

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Trevor Bauer facing allegations of assault

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Trevor Bauer is facing allegations of assault by a woman stemming from previous sexual encounter.

The Pasadena, California police department said it is investigating the alleged assault, which it says occurred around the middle of May. The case could be turned over to the district attorney’s office as soon as Wednesday, a source told ESPN, at which point a decision would be made on whether it will move forward.

The woman was granted a domestic violence restraining order in L.A. County Superior Court against Bauer, according to her attorney, Marc Garelick, who alleged in a statement that his client “suffered severe physical and emotional pain” as a result of a “recent assault” from Bauer.

Garelick issued a statement Tuesday, writing, “Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible. We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously.”

Bauer’s attorney, Jon Fetterolf, released a lengthy statement to ESPN denying any wrongdoing on behalf of his client. In the statement, Fetterolf described the relationship as “consensual” and called the woman’s allegations “baseless” and “defamatory.”
