Scar Tissue - By Bobby Jenks

She snapped some pictures with her phone and then showed me that the bottom of my incision, about three-fourths of an inch of it, had burst open. That’s where the fluid was coming from. And it was just flowing out, too. It was constant — almost like a faucet that had been opened just a tiny, little bit. When we were able to get a look, we saw that it wasn’t blood. It was this weird clear liquid.

Neither of us knew what to do at that point. We couldn’t get ahold of the doctor who’d performed the surgery, so we just kept bandaging me up. But we needed to change the dressing on my incision a bunch of times because it just wouldn’t stop leaking fluid. I had to wake up three or four times that night to switch out the gauze, and the next morning I decided I needed to get looked at by a doctor.

I drove over to one of those little medical clinics they have everywhere now, and as soon as the doctor in that place saw me, he took immediate action. It was like, “I’m calling the hospital right now. Go home and pack some things, and then I need you to get to the emergency room….

“Mr. Jenks … you’re leaking spinal fluid.”

Trea Turner undergoes surgery on right index finger

Nationals shortstop Trea Turner underwent surgery on his right index finger, MLB.com’s Manny Randhawa reports. Turner suffered a non-displaced fracture when he was hit by a pitch attempting to bunt in early April.

Turner missed six weeks of action and played through the injury for the remainder of the season. He was quite successful, batting .298/.353/.497 with 19 home runs, 57 RBI, 96 runs scored, and 35 stolen bases across 569 plate appearances. Turner’s performance, especially late in the regular season, helped the Nationals claim the first NL Wild Card. They, of course, would go on to win the World Series.

Nationals’ Dave Martinez Underwent Heart Procedure After Having Chest Pains

Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez reportedly underwent a cardiac catheterization after experiencing chest pains during Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Braves.

Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reported the news, noting Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo deemed it a “little minor procedure” while revealing Martinez seemed “upbeat.” According to Zuckerman, Martinez will remain in the nation’s capital as the Nationals prepare for a three-game series in St. Louis that begins Monday.

Bench coach Chip Hale took over the managing duties when Martinez left Sunday’s contest in the sixth inning and will do so again during Monday’s game, per the team.

Best wishes for him and those who know him well.

Yankees announcer Michael Kay ‘scared’ his return won’t last after vocal cord surgery

New York Yankees TV play-by-play announcer Michael Kay made his return on Saturday after taking six weeks off following surgery that removed a nodule from his vocal cords.

Kay called two of the Yankees’ games against the Cleveland Indians on Saturday and Sunday at Yankee Stadium on the YES Network, his first appearance since June.

His return after the surgery, however, didn’t quite go as well has he had hoped. He said he felt “really nervous” before Saturday’s game, and thinks his voice “didn’t have much.”

“Quite frankly, I’m scared,” Kay said Monday, via the New York Post.
