Mets extend spring training invite to Tim Tebow

The New York Mets just can’t quit Tim Tebow.

Despite hitting just .163 with four home runs in 77 games at Triple-A Syracuse in 2019, the Mets have extended a spring training invitation to the 32-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner. He’s one of eight non-roster invitees the club announced on Thursday.

Tebow begins his fourth full season in the Mets organization and owns a career batting line of .223/.299/.338 with 18 home runs and 327 strikeouts in 287 games. His 2019 season ended on July 21 with a laceration to his pinkie on his left hand. His 2018 season also ended early when he missed the final two months with a broken bone in his right hand.

Tebow, who works for the SEC Network as a football analyst during his baseball offseason, isn’t a legitimate prospect, given his age and lack of production. The Mets have received criticism in the past for giving Tebow playing time in the minors over other players who might actually help the Mets in the future.

Well, now’s the season for this sort of thing, I suppose…..

Tim Tebow’s third year in baseball as told by coaches, teammates and scouts

NEW YORK — A seemingly innocuous base hit by Detroit Tigers minor leaguer Dustin Peterson quickly became an important moment for one of sports’ most intriguing stories.

The single brought a merciful and conveniently timed end to the third chapter of Tim Tebow’s journey with the New York Mets. The ball opened up a cut on Tebow’s finger that required eight stitches, nearly a year to the day after a fractured hamate bone ended his All-Star season with Double-A Binghamton.

It could realistically be the end of Tebow’s baseball career altogether. The 2019 season was the last in which a major league club could carry 40 players after Sept. 1. Next year, that number will be whittled down to 28.

Yahoo Sports talked to a number of scouts who remained unimpressed by Tebow’s play despite his stellar makeup and work ethic. It’s enough to rightfully question whether Tebow will try for a fourth year as even the excitement of his presence in the minors seems to have declined this season.

For those who wish to read a long-form piece about a mediocrity that never gets around to the big question concerning him- who is it that keeps pushing him and why?

Tim Tebow’s baseball season is over due to July hand injury

Tim Tebow will not make his MLB debut this season, and it’s not because the suddenly hot New York Mets don’t have room for him on the major league roster.

Newsday’s Tim Healey first reported that the former college football standout will miss the remainder of the season as he continues healing from a hand injury suffered in July.

Yahoo Sports’ Matt Ehalt has since confirmed the news.

Tebow suffered a cut that required eight stitches in his left hand. He was injured while fielding a ball in the outfield, Syracuse Mets manager Tony DeFrancesco told reporters on July 23.

Does this mean our great national nightmare is over?

Tim Tebow and his .163 batting average head to the injured list

Tim Tebow’s minor league baseball career is not going well.

Tebow, the former NFL quarterback who has spent the last couple years trying to be a professional baseball player, is hitting .163 with the Syracuse Mets, and now he’s been placed on the injured list after cutting his hand while trying to field a ball. The cut required eight stitches.

Does this mean that we won?
