Tommy Pham continues hot start to Boston Red Sox career with dramatic walk-off: ‘We don’t get paid for overtime,’ he says

As Tommy Pham stepped to the plate in the 10th inning against reliever Lou Trivino, his mindset was simple. He had enjoyed his first taste of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry but wanted the game to be over.

So Pham, who was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts before the 10th, laced a hard grounder down the third-base line, plating automatic runner Christian Arroyo and giving the Red Sox a 3-2 walk-off win over their first-place rivals. Mission accomplished.

“End it. We don’t get paid for overtime,” Pham told NESN’s Jahmai Webster when asked about his mindset in the 10th. “End it.”

Pham’s third career walk-off hit capped off a dramatic victory for the Red Sox, who trailed all game until Yankees closer Clay Holmes walked two batters to lead off the ninth and J.D. Martinez tied the game with an RBI single up the middle. In the 10th, Arroyo advanced to third when Jaylin Davis tapped out to Trivino then failed to score when Reese McGuire bunted on his own for a hit. With one out, Pham got a 2-0 sinker and shot it 101.7 mph by the third base bag to clinch the win.

Boston Red Sox finalizing trade for Tommy Pham of Cincinnati Reds, sources say

The Boston Red Sox are finalizing a deal to acquire outfielder Tommy Pham from the Cincinnati Reds, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Monday

It wasn’t immediately known the full extent of the trade package.

News of Pham’s addition came shortly after Boston agreed to send longtime catcher Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros.

Whether the Red Sox would be a buyer or seller before Tuesday’s trade deadline had been one of the biggest question marks in baseball. Boston has struggled since the All-Star break, dropping to 51-52 and into last place in the AL East. However, it’s just 3.5 games behind the final AL wild card spot entering Monday night’s play.

Report: Reds OF Tommy Pham slapped Giants’ Joc Pederson over fantasy football disagreement

For a while, it was hard to figure out what exactly what happened before Friday’s game between the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants.

We knew a confrontation in the outfield escalated to the point two people had to be separated. We knew it didn’t reach any kind of brawl status, even though the Reds bullpen cleared. We knew Reds outfielder Tommy Pham was scratched from the lineup with no explanation right before a rain delay ended. And that was about it….

According to The Athletic, Pham slapped Giants outfielder Joc Pederson over a disagreement with their fantasy football league. Specifically, Pham reportedly slapped Pederson “Will Smith-style,” and we take that to mean the actor and not the Los Angeles Dodgers catcher or Atlanta Braves reliever, both of whom have been teammates with Pederson.

Pham told reporters Pederson was the instigator, according to The Mercury News. The two were apparently reheating an argument they had in a group text in a league involving players from several other teams.

Reds, OF Tommy Pham agree on 1-year deal

After starting Spring Training by trading away several players, the re-working of the Reds’ roster has brought several new additions. The latest move by Cincinnati came late Wednesday, when the club agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free-agent outfielder Tommy Pham.

The deal, which includes a mutual option for 2023, is pending a physical. The club has not confirmed the deal.

Pham, a right-handed hitter with some power, should likely slot into a share of left field with lefty-hitting Jake Fraley. The rest of the outfield includes Nick Senzel in center field and Tyler Naquin in right field, with several contenders vying for reserve roles.
