Revisiting Kris Bryant trade situation 2 weeks before Phillies spring training

With two weeks until pitchers and catchers report around the league, three top players could still be traded if the right price is met.

Kris Bryant, Nolan Arenado, Mookie Betts.

While it looks increasingly likely that Colorado opens the season with Arenado, a big piece of the Bryant puzzle was finally solved earlier this week when an arbiter ruled in favor of the Cubs, determining that Bryant would not gain an extra year of service time for the clear manipulation the Cubs pulled with him in 2015 when they called him up to the majors one day after the cutoff.

It means that Bryant is under two full years of club control. It’s a huge benefit to the Cubs because two years of a very good player will net you more in a trade than one.

To say nothing about how, under a circumstance like that, you might not want said player to linger in the clubhouse longer than absolutely necessary, especially with a manager that screams “weak”.....

Nationals ‘love’ Kris Bryant but potential holdup could stymie trade talks

With Anthony Rendon officially joining the Angels, the Nationals have a vacancy at third base.

Washington has options to replace Rendon; Josh Donaldson is still available in free agency, and Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant could potentially be had via trade.

The Nationals have reportedly inquired with the Cubs about Bryant, and while they “love” the 27-year-old, their focus is on Donaldson, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. The Cubs would likely seek center fielder Victor Robles in a deal, a holdup on Washington’s end, Heyman said.

Should the Red Sox Trade Mookie Betts?

With Dave Dombrowski out and a new baseball operations guru presumably on the way in, the Red Sox are approaching a critical juncture. Chief among the priorities of Boston’s revamped front office will be dealing with 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts, which could mean dealing Mookie Betts ahead of his contract year or trying to build one last team around him before he becomes a coveted free agent.

The question is simple, the answer is not: Should the Red Sox trade Mookie Betts this winter?

It strikes me as a lousy idea, but, if they’re being serious, the Giants have a player that (if the the Red Sox fan base offers the sort of pressure I expect) could result in the steal of the century…..
