2019 Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award winners announced

On Tuesday, the winners of the 2019 Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Awards were announced on MLB Network. Gold Gloves were handed out on Sunday, but Wilson has their own line of defensive awards. The differences between the two are that the Wilson awards are not as widely hailed and there’s only one winner at each position as opposed to the one from each league (two total) for the Gold Glove. The winners are determined by a formula that takes into account scouting information, basic fielding stats, and more advanced (Sabermetric) stats.

Your winners:

First base: Freddie Freeman, Braves
Second base: Kolten Wong, Cardinals
Shortstop: Andrelton Simmons, Angels
Third base: Matt Chapman, Athletics
Left field: David Peralta, Diamondbacks
Center field: Lorenzo Cain, Brewers
Right field: Aaron Judge, Yankees
Catcher: Roberto Pérez, Indians
Pitcher: Zack Greinke, Astros

So, how do these awards compare on the merits to the Gold Gloves?

IMO, they missed at first base. I think Matt Olson is clearly the best right now, while Freeman is in the next group with Votto, Goldschmidt and Belt.

In right I would rather have Mookie or Bellinger, but this one is close enough that Judge might be the correct answer. Same at short. I think Simmons is the best, but if you wanted to argue Baez or Ahmed I won't disagree.

Judge missed a lot of games but my understanding he was very good when he played. I could see giving the award to someone who played more especially if overall skill level is close.

I was worried that Greinke's Gold Glove streak would break due to being traded mid-season, but he ended up winning both this award and the NL GG.

Weird how big the discrepancy is for Nick Ahmed between rDRS and UZR. I was going to make a case for why Ahmed should have won over Simmons, and in fact many more innings played , he probably should have. But the gap in UZR is just weird.

Ahmed. 1381 Innings

UZR =1.9, UZR/150= 2.3

rDRS= 18, rDRS/Yr.= 16

Simmons. 873 Innings

UZR= 10.4, UZR/150 = 13.8

rDRS = 14, rDRS/yr =19
