Homer Bailey is still pitching? Weird, back in like nineteen-dickety-dick, I thought the word was he hated baseball, and was just doing it for the money.

Looking up his minor-league record ... Beimel didn't pitch at all for 2018-20, at least not in any league b-r tracks. He came back in 2021 at age 44 for the Padres AA team where he pitched pretty well -- 20 IP, 16 Ks (c'mon, he's 44), 1 HR, 2.21 ERA. That got him a promotion to AAA where he wasn't so good (5 HR in 15 IP).

His Wiki page already speaks of his career in the past tense. I thought maybe he'd been a pitching coach the last few years but no evidence of that. According to his page, he's the only player to ever wear 97 -- the year his first kid was born. That kid will be 25 next year.

Yea, it's probably a paperwork thing, where he was an unofficial coach.

4. They do get free room and board now. Got to ride that wave as far as it will take you.

Finally Jeff Mathis is unwanted?

#8 Cunning master plan. Take Mets GM job. Hire Mike Scioscia. We know what he wants in a catcher. At which point he resigns the Mets GM job because seriously nobody seems to actually want it.

That list looks like one of my crappy fantasy baseball drafts…

Two mildly interesting names among the few Rangers I recognized:

Anderson Tejeda, who could have had the Rangers' starting 3B job this April if he had hit at all in his brief opportunity. He had showed some promise in previous years but was terrible this season and now it doesn't look like he'll ever hit in the majors.

And John Hicks, a journeyman catcher. If you look at the Rangers' Player Value list on B-Ref, they had all of four guys this year with positive RBat: Joey Gallo 17, Nathaniel Lowe 12, an infielder named Andy Ibañez 3 … and John Hicks 2. The Rangers promoted Hicks in July when all their other catchers were injured or something. Hicks hit a home run in his first start. He hit two home runs in his second start. He hit another home run in his third start and at that point had gone 6-for-12, 4 HR, 6 RBI, 6 Runs. After that he went 2-for-19 and back to the minors, but if this was his last big-league season it will look nice on B-Ref with an OPS+ of 146.

Josh Ockimey of the Red Sox is mildly intriguing. There’s some power there, might be interesting to see what a change of scenery could do for him. Entertainingly he tweets out “good morning” every day.
