Is it me or has there been like 15 pop ups in this game? Joey Votto is not impressed as he goes years without one of these....

As a Red Sox fan I am happy to admit these games are more enjoyable when they are winning by 6 or more.

And of course, he homer on the first pitch !

How does a dude that small hit the ball that hard? It's pretty darn impressive.

Kudos to Graveman, usually a sure loss.
   425. Random Transaction Generator Posted: October 19, 2021 at 11:27 PM (#6047685)
I thought Graveman was the only part of the A's side of the Donaldson trade to Toronto that is still in the majors.

It looks like Sean Nolin, after not appearing since 2015 in the majors, and skipping through the Brewers, Rockies, White Sox, and Mariners systems (plus a visit to the independent Atlantic League), resurfaced in Washington this season for 10 games in relief.

Huh.
   426. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 19, 2021 at 11:31 PM (#6047686)
Jesus, Eovaldi grunting it hard !

Huh.
No way you could have reasonably noticed, given that 83 percent of the population of the Western Hemisphere pitched at least one game in relief this season.

   430. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 19, 2021 at 11:34 PM (#6047691)
Stop being an idiot, Eovaldi. Stop the grunting.
   431. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 19, 2021 at 11:40 PM (#6047692)
That's what you get for your stupid grunts, a ball !
   432. PJ Martinez Posted: October 19, 2021 at 11:42 PM (#6047693)
Man, Eovaldi really got squeezed in that at-bat.

But hey, only a grand slam behind still.

It's Laz Diaz behind the plate.
Of course it's awful random. Years and years of evidence tell us it's going to be awful.

Sure, why not show a little life down by 7 in the 9th. Maybe you can string it out long enough that this pitcher isn't available tomorrow.

   464. Nasty Nate Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:32 PM (#6047879)
Is this the first playoff game this year that the beloved Red Sox have worn their normal home whites?
   465. Nasty Nate Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:33 PM (#6047881)
Maybe they were going to wear the yellows but Sale got to them first.
   466. Jose Has Absurd Goosebump Arms Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:41 PM (#6047884)
I’m still very confused.

As for the unis, apparently Sale has said he likes the yellows.
   467. Jay Seaver Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:41 PM (#6047885)
Yeah - like with the yellows in mid-September, they were winning with the reds so they stuck with it.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Rodriguez really likes the reds, so they started wearing him during his starts as well as on Fridays at some point. At one point, I was pretty sure they were wearing alternates more often than the regular ones.
   468. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:42 PM (#6047886)
Oooh, Valdez looks sharp today. In total contrast to Renfroe who looks like he has no clue what to do with a bat in his hands at this time.
   469. Jose Has Absurd Goosebump Arms Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:47 PM (#6047887)
Sale seems to have a bit more bite to his pitches today. I’m probably imagining something but it seems like he’s dropping down a bit more.
   470. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:54 PM (#6047888)
Sale looks pretty good. I'm very happy so far, in spite of being down 1-0.
The Astro are gonna score runs, there's nothing scientific about that. The Sox just need to get a few on the board to give themselves a chance; simple as that.
   471. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 20, 2021 at 05:57 PM (#6047889)
I figure you can’t win a 7-game playoff series if your starting pitchers regularly go less than 5 innings, sometimes much less, but this may turn out to be a weird year.

He's frambing quite well.
   473. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:02 PM (#6047891)
Framber got the perfecto going and just cruising along after 3. Really impressive. This Red Sox fan, though impressed, is not pleased.

I figure you can’t win a 7-game playoff series if your starting pitchers regularly go less than 5 innings, sometimes much less, but this may turn out to be a weird year.

This logic fails when both teams pull their starters before 5 innings. They can't both lose.
   475. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:17 PM (#6047899)
I wonder if the Red Sox keep a litter of puppies in the clubhouse so Sale can celebrate big strikeouts by biting their heads off.
   476. Jose Has Absurd Goosebump Arms Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:17 PM (#6047900)
Someone’s a little fired up.
   477. Jay Seaver Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:23 PM (#6047901)
Joe Buck has just gone on the most extended weird tangent about hyper-specific situations I've heard in a while.

You've been posting here awhile and should realise that Clapper pretty much only comments when there is some possible negativity with respect to the Red Sox. You should see him in Sox Therapy, he never comments when the Sox are going well, but holy moly he'll post like the trolliest of trolls when the Sox do something wrong.

Framber still cruising though. Sale just needs to keep the Sox in this and hope they can somehow figure this guy out.
   479. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:34 PM (#6047903)
Hugh is doing his hypersensitive Red Sox fan thing again. The Red Sox aren’t the only team in the playoffs whose starters are not pitching deep into the games, which was the point of the earlier post (#471).
   480. Jose Has Absurd Goosebump Arms Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:34 PM (#6047904)
Very encouraging the way Sale is throwing.

Some nitwit using a laser pointer in the bleachers?

nah mate. You're just a broken record and it gets tedious.

Renfroe lost at the plate, a K would've been better....
   482. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:41 PM (#6047906)
Darn, nice work by Framber to get out of the jam. Sox still scoreless.
   483. Jose Has Absurd Goosebump Arms Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:43 PM (#6047908)
Still puzzled about the conversation earlier in the day but oh well.

   486. bunyon Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:48 PM (#6047912)
Altuve could have scored on the ball Schwarber dropped. No one was at home.

   489. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:52 PM (#6047916)
Astros gonna get their 4-5 runs a game, no sense in thinking that won't happen. So far Alvarez 3, Sox Nil
   490. bunyon Posted: October 20, 2021 at 06:58 PM (#6047917)
Sale pitched well. The E3 was devastating. And he should have attacked Alvarez inside
   491. Jose Has Absurd Goosebump Arms Posted: October 20, 2021 at 07:00 PM (#6047918)
Man, this is death by a thousand cuts. Alvarez’ ball was pretty well hit but other than that nothing too big here.
   492. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 20, 2021 at 07:02 PM (#6047919)
The bleeding has stopped! Astros put up a very crooked 5 in their top half. Sox gonna struggle to peg that back.

towel in ring, Sawamura in to possibly give up more runs.

Well the Sox have decided to take the tougher road to the World Series.

Speier says Renfroe is second guy with two games of 2 GIDP in one series and ties the record of 5 GIDP in a post-season.
