Looks like I’m going to lose my annual bet with my father-in-law. The good news is it’s $2.

*Father-in-law bursts into the house, slapping a baseball bat against his palm and loudly chewing gum*

"Hey, punk. Where's my money?"

Home plate umpire picked a wonderful time to start giving the Braves pitching a massive strike zone.

Well yeah, that’s well established.

They just absolutely refuse to let go of the analytics vs. old school crap. Can anyone think of a narrative that has been so harped on for so many years? I’m not talking about traditional cliches like “good pitching beats good hitting” or whatever.
   407. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: November 02, 2021 at 10:32 PM (#6050865)
This would be really cool is Fried goes 7+ innings.
   408. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: November 02, 2021 at 10:34 PM (#6050869)
BTW, at the start of the playoffs, other then Braves fans, who had Atlanta as a firm chance? There weren't even on my radar, I figured them and my guys(Red Sox) would get turfed out pretty early.
   409. Tom Nawrocki Posted: November 02, 2021 at 10:35 PM (#6050870)
Let Fried go the distance! What are you saving his arm for?
   410. and Posted: November 02, 2021 at 10:38 PM (#6050871)
I’m a Braves fan and argued they didn’t belong.

Wow. That’s a Brooks Robinson play.

Really glad this is happening in Houston rather than Atlanta.

Yeah, only way I can tolerate them winning to be honest. And I like their team more too.

At the beginning of the season.. they might have been the second or third chance behind Dodgers and Padres(among nl contenders).... In the post season... nobody took them.
   415. Tom Nawrocki Posted: November 02, 2021 at 10:52 PM (#6050880)
As well as Fried was pitching, it would be kind of funny if the Astros came back against the Braves bullpen.
   416. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: November 02, 2021 at 10:52 PM (#6050881)
This is bullsh*t. Fried was cruising and you're up 7-0. Let him keep pitching
   417. It's Spelled With a CFBF, But Not Where You Think Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:00 PM (#6050883)
Fried's velocity was down a little bit his last inning and, just observationally, he seemed a little gassed. Probably could have squeezed another inning out of him, but Tyler Matzek's glove is basically the Infinity Gauntlet right now, so going with him is a pretty straightforward call.
   418. Tom Nawrocki Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:01 PM (#6050885)
Whenever possible, you want to get a Rockies-trained pitcher out there.

Fair enough. Hard to tell whilst watching the game on the app in the corner of my screen whilst at work.

Who takes home MVP?
Matzek? Am I giving his NLCS performance too much credit and letting it color my judgment?
   421. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:06 PM (#6050888)
Seems Soler fits the bill.

How Jorge Soler's World Series home run ball ended up at an apartment party outside the stadium

The Braves' home run landed outside Minute Maid Park and sat on a sidewalk for eight minutes before a fan grabbed it
   423. with Glavinesque control and Madduxian poise Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:13 PM (#6050891)
Hard to avoid giving Soler MVP, I think.
   424. It's Spelled With a CFBF, But Not Where You Think Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:15 PM (#6050892)
I'm beginning to think the Braves will win this.

Would be ever so fitting if a Bullpen Droid won it this year though. Has a non-closer reliever ever won it?
   427. Howie Menckel Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:18 PM (#6050895)
Really glad this is happening in Houston rather than Atlanta.

I said before the Series that I hoped the road team would win every game - so Braves in 7.

so this will work
   428. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:19 PM (#6050896)
With Stubbs in, they got all four Jewish players into the same game. That’s cool.
   429. Moses Taylor loves a good maim Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:21 PM (#6050897)
I think they said last time that the world series was clinched by the home team was 2013. That's interesting, I guess.
   430. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:21 PM (#6050898)
Glad that was corrected. I was like that ain't Gant. Give the Grip some love.

That’s why I mentioned Matzek
   432. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:26 PM (#6050900)
Had or should a counsell team win a ws, it would have to be a Droid. Matzek is a good candidate though. Just think Soler made some statements which stand out.
   433. Tin Angel Posted: November 02, 2021 at 11:28 PM (#6050901)
Just goes to show- if you can get the public to pay for an unnecessary new stadium you are very likely to win the World Series within a few years.

Yeah, I should have quoted you - I was responding to your comment and the Soler comment.

They should give the MVP to “Some Reliever.”

Hou-stunned!

Never saw this coming. Even at 3-1 playing great, I thought they’d lose. Really happy for Freddie and snitker. Feel bad for dusty.

Ha. Let’s say for the sake of argument that they do decide to give him a ring. If you’re Mathis, do you accept it? Do you ever wear it?

If you combined all four main characters of King of the Hill, you’d get Brian Snitker.

Being converted into Eddie Rosario arguably makes Pablo Sandoval the MVP of the entire postseason.

Is Soler wearing a Cuban flag? That's just unamerican!

bunyon, 394: Yes. In the 2004 WS, Red Sox batters drew 24 walks in 4 games, and struck out 20 times. Altitude may have helped.

#446

Mathis caught one game where the Braves won. So, while he never got a hit or a walk or was a positive contribution in actual fielding*, he can claim some credit for being a catcher when the team won.

* he had one assist, one wild pitch, one passed ball, and two runners stole on him

Hell of a job, Mathis. Hell of a job.

454: Cool! I extrapolated from the 07 team being close.
