2022 Caribbean Series

2022 Caribbean Series starts Friday morning at 9AM in Santo Domingo.  Each of the six teams play each other once with the top four teams playing in the semis on Wednesday and the final on Thursday.  Friday/Saturday/Sunday schedule is 10AM,3PM,8PM, Monday/Tuesday is 10:30AM,3PM,8PM.  MLB’s website still has a link to 2019’s series up so that’s helpful.  Baseball24.com is a site I find pretty good at updating;

Friday: PR 2-3 Panama, Colombia 6-1 Venezuela, DR 3-2 Mexico
Saturday: Panama 5-6 Colombia, Mexico 0-5 Venezuela, PR 3-5 DR
Sunday: Colombia 0-1 Mexico, Venezuela 4-2 PR, Panama 3-7 DR
Monday: Venezuela 2-1 Panama, Mexico 5-0 PR, DR 1-2 Colombia
Tuesday: Colombia 2-6 PR, Panama 0-1. Mexico, Venezuela 7-8 DR

Wednesday: Semifinal A 3PM, Semifinal B 8PM
Thursday: Final 7PM

All games are being televised on ESPNDeportes.

Looks like a decent primer here.

Game one features a walk off win for Panama. Game two at 3PM.

Thanks for posting about this, it’s not on tv in Canada but there are YouTube streams.

Apparently game 2 started early, it’s in the bottom of the third.

Looks like Colombia had a pretty easy time of it. 4 in the third pretty much put things away. DR and Mexico on now. Cano with an RBI ground out in the top of the first for the Dominicans.

DR get two runs in the top of the 7th to bounce back and get the 3-2 win. After day one;

Colombia 1-0 +5
DR 1-0 +1
Panama 1-0 +1
PR 0-1 -1
Mexico 0-1 -1
Venezuela 0-1 -5

Panama-Colombia is a thriller! Colombia lead 3-1 going to the 8th but Panama rally for three in the top of the 8th and a 4-3 lead. Colombia bounce back as Mauricio Ramos doubles to tie the game but a beautiful relay guns down the go ahead run. In the ninth Panama load the bases with one out on three consecutive walks but a ground out and a fly out only push across one. Trailing 5-4 Colombia come up for their final chance against Not That Jose Molina. A leadoff walk and a bunt put the tie run on second and Carlos Martinez flies one down the left field line for a game tying double. Panama call on Abdiel Saldana to try and force extras but Harold Ramirezfloats one to right that eludes Rodrigo Orozco for a walk off double.

That's a big win for Colombia. DR, PR and Mexico are likely to advance so Venezuela, Panama and Colombia are probably fighting for one spot. Colombia have beaten both of those other two teams already.

Venezuela has five pitchers combine on a 4 hit shutout over Mexico. I think my theory that Mexico is likely to advance was erroneous. They are now in a bit of a spot at 0-2 with a game against 2-0 Colombia tomorrow.

Big day from Robbie Cano and some poor defense by Puerto Rico pushes the Dominicans to a 5-3 win. Cano had a ridiculous triple in the first. He hit a fly ball to left-center for what should have been a single. The CF was so concerned with deking the runner that he didn't get over in time and the ball rolled to the wall. Two run first probably should have been nothing.

Colombia 2-0 +6
DR 2-0 +3
Venezuela 1-1 0
Panama 1-1 -1
PR 0-2 -3
Mexico 0-2 -6

Day three in the books and things are starting to take shape. The Dominicans are almost certainly through to the semis at this point while Puerto Rico are in serious trouble. Today's PR-Mexico game is huge, hard to see the loser of that one advancing. Head to head is the tiebreaker that matters.
DR 3-0 +7
Colombia 2-1 +2
Venezuela 2-1 +2
Panama 1-2 -5
Mexico 1-2 -5
Puerto Rico 0-3 -7

Venezuela get a big 2-1 win over Panama as the Panmanians leave 11 men on. Venezuela and the DR are officially into the semis now. Mexico-PR at 2PM is huge, if Mexico win then they play winner take all tomorrow against Panama. If PR wins then it's a three way tie with them, Mexico and Panama at 1-3 heading into the last day. Mexico will play Panama while PR will be playing Colombia who play the DR tonight.

The final day is upon us. Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela are all through, they are just playing for seeding. Game of the day is Panama and Mexico, winner take all.

Colombia 3-1 +3
DR 3-1 +6
Venezuela 3-1 +3
Mexico 2-2 0
Panama 1-3 -6
Puerto Rico 0-4 -12

Mexico hangs on against Panama for the 1-0 win! Roberto Osuna earns the save! Our final four is set; Colombia, DR, Venezuela, Mexico!

Wow, late night game yesterday was crazy. DR was up 6-0 after 6 innings, gave up 5 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th to trail 7-6 then tied it back up with one in the bottom of the 8th and won it in the 10th. Final Standings;

DR 4-1
Colombia 3-2
Venezuela 3-2
Mexico 3-2
Panama 1-4
Puerto Rico 1-4

Happy Semi-Final Day everyone!

2PM Venezuela at Colombia
7PM Mexico at Dominican Republic

It's falling apart early for Venezuela. Colombia up 5-0 in the bottom of the third.

Game one was a snoozer as Colombia destroyed the Venezuelans 8-1. Then I got a flat tire and I'm finally sitting down to see the DR up 1-0 in the top of the 8th.

Tyler Alexander of the Tigers throws 8 perfect innings before a leadoff double in the ninth chases him. DR had scored in the bottom of the 8th to make it 2-0 and that was big as Mexico pushed across one but left the tie run at second base. So Colombia and the Dominicans tomorrow night for all the marbles!!!

COLOMBIA!!!!

Caimanes de Barranquilla become the first Colombian team to ever win the Caribbean Series in a 4-1 final over the Dominican representative. It was a 3 run second that led the way and the pitching made it stand up!

So my father has been watching the Caribbean Series. He’s been recording and watching when he has time since as he puts it, no one is going to spoil it for him. Who watches the Caribbean Series? He is through the whole thing except the second semi and the final. Well the other day he and my mother are out to dinner with some friends and the waiter is named Raul. My father and he immediately start speaking Spanish to each other;

Raul: Oh where are you from?
Jose Sr.: Cuba, how about you?
Raul: Oh I’m Colombian. And how are you?
Jose Sr.: I’m well, how are you?
Raul: Oh I’m great. I’m a big baseball fan and Colombia just won the Caribbean Series!
