Kumar Rocker at third is very interesting. He could have gone anywhere, but after the kerfluffle with the Mets last year, I would not have guessed the top of the first round.

Anyone surprised that the Cubs and Royals had the biggest over reach of the top ten so far?

Definitely looking like since this is supposedly a weak pitching draft, that pitchers are going out earlier than they probably rate. I hope the Cardinals adjust their strategy as there are going to be decent position players for them to go after that might have been thought to not be on the board.

11 picks in, and on MLB top 100 draft prospect rating 8 of the 10 best had been picked (with the Cubs taking 24th and Rangers taking 38 and Rockies taking 26) (Cam Collier and Jace Jung still remain from their top ten list)

Guardians got the guy I was hoping to fall to the Cardinals, Chase DeLauter. I'm not a prospect expert but still feels like he would have been a great sure pick.

Do the Reds actually sign Collier at 18th pick money?

Do the Cardinals have the guts to pick Brock Porter? I was hoping the Cardinals would take a high school player since they are pretty much stacked at the minors already with almost ready players, but I'm always afraid of high school pitchers. Not sure the last high school age pitcher that the Cardinals have developed that was a first / second round talent (doesn't mean I'm right, maybe someone else did it that I forgot)

nope, went with Cooper Hjerpe. Seems like a quick to the majors type of player (heck both Harold and the college guy flat out stated that he could actually make the majors this year as a lefty reliever who can go three batters) Considering the Cardinals weakness in the minors, seems like a quick fix type of player who will immediately slot into their top 10 prospect list, but who doesn't have the same upside as others potentially did.

So who wins/loses on Brock Porter? If you draft him now, you almost have to waste a second round pick to sign him probably.

In answer to my question in 13, it looks like he's committed to college and was going to be a hard sign.

The Xavier Isaac pick by the Rays feels interesting, here is a guy who was a hopeful 2nd or 3rd round pick, partially because he was committed, but this is the Rays, and it might be possible they can sign him below slot because he has enough weakness in his game that he might never work his way up this high on the next draft either. But man the guy looks like a monster.

Note: I know nothing of what I'm talking about in this thread, I'm just for some reason into it, most likely because I didn't get a game today to watch.
Yankees hoping to strike gold on another 6’7” college outfielder. Could work, and the kid (Spencer Jones) will certainly get a lot of attention as long as the Judge similarity holds.
Brock Porter really sliding. Thought he'd be the top pitcher taken. High demands? Or is he headed to Clemson?

Cross wasn't a reach at all, most had him top ten. His dad also runs a Christian travel baseball team, and played in the Braves system when Dayton was a scout there, so no surprise they took him.
Picks I love:
Termarr Johnson to PIT at #4 Fun guy to root for, potential batting title winner
Brooks Lee to MIN at #8
Cam Collier to CIN at #18 LOVE THIS KID
Brandon Barreira to TOR at #23 Love gangly lefties, pretty good repertoire already
Drew Gilbert to HOU at #28 Will be a quick riser
JR Ritchie to ATL at #35 (the pick the Royals traded them)
Ivan Melendez to ARI at #43 (they had a great draft day overall)
Henry Bolte to OAK at #56
Carson Whisenhunt to NYM at #66
@JonHeyman
Kumar Rocker is agreeing with the Rangers at $5.2M which is under slot for the No. 3 pick but still $460,100 more than the Mets slot at No. 10 last year. Mets passed on signing due to medical evaluation.
Is it me or is it weird that the Mets' first two picks are a catcher (where they already have a top-10 prospect in Alvarez) and a shortstop (where Lindor's scheduled to be for the next decade)? I mean, I guess it's a good problem to have, but presumably there were areas where their minor leagues were thinner.

It's usually a bad idea to draft for need. These kids take so long to make it to the majors (assuming they even make the majors) that by the time they're ready to contribute whatever strengths and/or weaknesses the organization had at draft time have become irrelevant. Grab the best players you can and figure out where to play them later.

Parada's bat may be strong enough to move him off catcher (at least off catching everyday), and some reports have Williams moving to centerfield at some point. If the Mets plan to sell the farm for Soto, they could do worse than picking two bats with potential this week.

About five billion college pitchers with recent TJ surgeries went on Day 1. I wonder to what extent the upheavals of the pandemic had to amateur pitchers' health, and if the industry has tried to account for that in evaluating future performance.
The White Sox took Peyton Pallette in the second round and will have him rehab until spring 2023. His frame seems less risky than first-round HS lefty Noah Schultz, who has not been hurt but evokes memories of Little Unit Ryan Anderson. He's large enough that I wonder if Jerry Reinsdorf will ask him to double as a 4 with the Bulls while he makes it though the system.
Son of Lou Collier, who had a little career as an infielders.

Per fangraphs, the Cubs didn't so much "reach" with Horton as plan to sign him under-slot so they'll have extra money for their next guy who was drafted #43(? somewhere down there) but apparently wants top 20 money. Whether that's the best use of the combined slot money is another question but it is apparently a "plan" not a "mistake."
