3 years later, this trade has flipped in a BIG way

Padres received: OF Trent Grisham, RHP Zach Davies
Brewers received: IF Luis Urías, LHP Eric Lauer, a PTBNL or cash

Milwaukee and San Diego will wrap up a three-game series at Petco Park on Wednesday, so it seems like a perfect time to revisit the trade and examine how it’s flipped in favor of the Crew, thanks in large part to Lauer’s breakout.

How it started
When the trade went down, Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns described it as a deal that would address the needs of two up-and-coming clubs.

“This is one of those trades—and they don’t come across all that often—where you really are lining up on team needs with another team,” Stearns said. “This isn’t a case of one team in a competitive cycle and one team in a build cycle. These are two teams that intend to be competitive next year. We believe we’re lining up on a good trade that helps both teams.”

Stearns has to be a top 5 GM. His hiring of Counsell, his success with very low budgets, his consistent ability to find gems in the bargain bin, the introduction of the six man rotation which has kept all those Brewers pitchers healthy and productive. You can argue the second yelich extension was bad but I looked back at the FG article on Yelich projections and the deal was a bargain at the time. And now he has a great team under control for a few years.

Name five GMs better than him.

Does anyone have the original thread on this trade? The indexing and archiving on BBTF seems completely broken now. Old posts exist, but they don't come up on a search and aren't listed in the archives.

#2 I've always had more luck going through Google. That said, I can't find a thread on the trade itself.

Here is the thread:

I found it by finding the date of the trade, going to the site Archive through Newsstand and guessing around at the page it was on (the previous thread pages are given by https://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/blogpen/archives/PX0 where X is a number which tells you which page of the archive it is on.

As soon as the Brewers were able to move Urias off short his bat appeared. He was worrying so much about his defense everything sucked. He still sails some throws but otherwise he's been great.

Lauer looks legit.

I believe that's described as "user-friendly."
