1. Dr. Pooks Posted: January 17, 2022 at 02:30 PM (#6061373)I wanted the Jays to break camp with Liriano in the big leagues and Mayza as insurance in the minors.
But considering that Mayza was the second best reliever for the first half of the season (behind Jordan Romano) in one of the AL's worst pens, the Jays seemed to have made the right call.
Am I alone in thinking the wild card game should never be called a “series”? A “round”, sure, but a single game can’t be a series.
The Twins already had peak Johan Santana in their rotation. Him and Liriano together was scary until, as you said, Liriano got injured.
133.2 innings with a 98 ERA+ is disastrous? Jeez, tough crowd.
My first thought upon reading Walt's post was that "Francisco Liriano" is a synonym for "Johan Santana." See also: Rijo, Jose.
For awhile there, I assumed the English translation was "Kris Medlen."
