They may have literally hit the button on that one when the margin in Pennsylvania flipped.

Yeah, I think they were waiting for that to happen.

To RR's point in #1 I don't think the Sox want to dump this news. This likely will get criticized elsewhere but it's going to be HUGELY popular among Red Sox fans. This is the easiest thing they could have done to get some good local press.

Does this mean we're getting Beltran back?

#4 Going all in. Barry Bonds is coming in as conditioning coach too.

As a Red Sox fan, I will say this is anything but hugely popular with me. I have no interest in cheaters running my team.

They want to dump the news because they would get hammered in the national media. Doing it now means no one outside Boston will remember that this happened until March or so.

I wonder what free agents think about this when looking at teams? If I had an equal choice between 3/4 teams and one of them was run by a former cheater, I’d steer clear. You never know when something will happen again and you end up getting tainted just like all the Astros. Verlander had a pretty good rep, right? And now everyone thinks there was something going on for his spin rate to improve so much with the Astros.

Now, if the Red Sox of Tigers are the only game in town, that’s a different story

I think that probably dramatically overstates the number of players who are against the kinds of things that went on in Houston.

am shocked beyond all description that the red sox hired whatshisname to sit in the dugout until cora finished his sentence.

they didn't want to let him go in the first place, and nothing has changed. i'm sure he did all kinds of cheating there too, yes, i know, unproven. obviously, the red sox players don't give a fig that he ran the cheating scheme in houston.

now i wonder what's happening with carlos beltran...

And Mookie. Total do-over.

This is great. I seriously doubt potential free agents are going to care that someone from one of many teams that were cheating is the manager.
Hinch and Cora served their time, were made an example of, and now they get to go back to work, which is how it should be. If people are serious about their cheating outrage, there would be nine or ten teams no free agent would sign with.

What makes you think cheaters aren't running every team?

Cheating runs deep in the DNA of baseball. His real crime was getting caught.

Remember: If you ain't cheatin', you ain't competin'

maybe Justin Turner will sign with the Red Sox!

Interesting, but not suprising, how MLB protects its own. The Braves broke some rules in the international scouting market, and GM John Coppolella was hit with a lifetime ban. Engage in cheating -- actually influencing the outcome of games -- take a year off, and re-apply for your job. Ho hum.

Alex Cora: Pretty good manager. Good enough to overcome all the baggage that comes with hiring him back so quickly with the same team? I wouldn't have thought so but apparently, yes?
