this game starts in an hour. worth a looky-loo

The top two American League pitchers this year (by WAR) are Mike Minor and Matthew Boyd.

HOW MANY YANKEES WILL CHRIS PADDACK STRIKE OUT TODAY?

We'll see, but meanwhile LeMahieu and Voit just led off with back-to-back moon shots. 2-0 Yanks.

And now GIO goes deep!

But I thought Paddack was the best pitcher ever to exist?

Maybe he can stop dressing like a tool now.

Damn, even Lettuce is getting hits off of Paddack ...

According to YES, those are the first three HRs by right handed batters Paddack has allowed. Granted, he’s a rookie, and it’s early in the season, but not that early.

Man, I so hate seeing Morales come to the plate for the Yankees ... I don't hate him, per se, but he's not just toast, he's burnt toast left out on the counter until it is so stale it would chip a rat's tooth.

Can't wait to see the back of him ...
   11. Blastin Posted: May 29, 2019 at 01:48 PM (#5846520)
The video of the Gio HR shows Paddack just straight up shaking his head after it.

His EV is still alright, he's fine until Stanton someday returns.
   13. PepTech Posted: May 29, 2019 at 01:51 PM (#5846523)
I may have missed it - was there a discussion of Mallex Smith stealing three bases in an inning on Monday? Because if there wasn't, there should have been.

There was some radio pundit whining that the home steal wasn't really a steal because the pitcher went to first, and it only "counts" if it's a straight steal off the windup. I say BS to that.
   14. Welcome to Gator Hammock (CoB). Posted: May 29, 2019 at 01:54 PM (#5846525)

He's the "Flounder" of the 2019 Yankees; I can just imagine him in Dean Wormer's Cashman's office, "fat, slow and useless is no way to go through life, son".

He makes my skin crawl the way seeing Holder come in from the pen makes my skin crawl.

It's irrational, I freely state it, but it is what it is ...

Yankees are one game shy of last year's 54-game record of 36-18.

The Padres should send their pitcher back to the paddock. He's been rode hard and put up wet!

1st hit for Padres comes in the 6th, as 2nd baseman LeMahieu can’t quite hold pop-up to shallow right while falling down.

Mariners starter Wade LeBlanc leaves after five innings with a 4-3 lead. In the top of the sixth, Mariners pitchers give the lead back by making three errors, plus a wild pitch, compounded by shortstop Tim Beckham catching a popup running away from home plate with a runner on third, rather than letting the left fielder catch it, making it a sacrifice fly to the shortstop. The Mariners are an...unusual...ballclub.

I feel for him, but, Maybin, Montgomery and Estrada seems likeliest.

I'd actually rather keep Estrada because I think Urshela will be not-good by the end of the year. I really like Thairo.

We're definitely going to acquire someone, too, so we'll see.

Maybin seems the most obvious cut, but I'm basing that mostly on his age (32) and his less than sterling career up to now. I can't really knock what he's done for the Yanks.

The wild card is Montgomery, who was a solid #4 starter (and improving) at the time of his injury. Of course you also have to say that at this point Severino isn't a lock to return to his early 2018 form. Don't forget that after July 1st, his ERA was 5.67,

I'd actually rather keep Estrada because I think Urshela will be not-good by the end of the year. I really like Thairo.

I love both of them, but IMO Urshela's brilliant glove work gives him the edge. His defense at that key 3B position would be harder to replace than Thairo's greater versatility.

Funny how Tulowitzki has become the forgotten man, even though he was actually playing quite well before he went down. But at this point he's almost in the same category as Bird or even Ellsbury.

We're definitely going to acquire someone, too, so we'll see.

But where? A backup starter like Keuchel as a hedge against unforeseen setbacks for the current ones? I can't see where they'd be going after any position players.

Doesn't seem that difficult. Injuries may make some of the decisions, so that depth may continue to pay dividends. I doubt Maybin stays on the roster for the entire season if everyone regains their health, much less makes the playoff roster. The Yankees won’t need 7 starting pitchers, either. Keep the best 4, plus one (or 2) best suited to a bullpen role, replacing the least effective bullpen option(s).

Red Sox v Indians is not a pitcher's dual. Indians also going for that score runs in every inning thing(6 down, 3 to go), which is kind of neat unless it's against your team.....
   53. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 29, 2019 at 08:44 PM (#5846645)
Indians now scored in 7 straight innings...only 2 more to go.

Not sure how often that happens if they score in all 9, but it's kind of neat.
   54. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: May 29, 2019 at 08:46 PM (#5846646)
Make that 9 straight innings, counting the 8th and 9th last night. 21 runs over that stretch, and the bonus is that I didn't even realize until about an hour ago that the Red Sox didn't win last night's game.
   55. The Yankee Clapper Posted: May 29, 2019 at 08:47 PM (#5846647)
Look on the bright side - all 14 runs are earned, so the defense isn’t the problem.

the Indians’ first triple of the season -

That was from the Red Sox/Indians wrap up.

That seems like quite a long time to go without hitting a triple. 55 games before the Indians finally hit one. How does one check on this sort of random, unimportant thing anyway?

Yeah, Walker, you can’t leave it up there like that for Pete Alonso. That’s not gonna work out well for you.

Alonso now has 19 HR and it's still May

most HR by a Met:

1. Carlos Beltran • 2006 41
Todd Hundley • 1996 41

3. Mike Piazza • 1999 40

4. Darryl Strawberry • 1987 39
Darryl Strawberry • 1988 39

6. Carlos Delgado • 2006 38
Carlos Delgado • 2008 38
Howard Johnson • 1991 38
Mike Piazza • 2000 38

10. Dave Kingman • 1976 37
Dave Kingman • 1982 37
Darryl Strawberry • 1990 37

(in 1976, Kingman had 32 by July 18, got hurt and missed 6 weeks and was not the same upon return)

In the Beginning - I see that the Cardinals started Genesis Cabrera.
what transpired was my no means a Revelation.

Pedro Báez is not only slow, he is also bad.

We've secretly replaced the Dodgers normal bullpen with the Washington Nationals bullpen. Let's watch on hidden camera to see if anybody notices...

Not a banner night for LA pitchers. Urias: Two batters, two homers, and I think the same fan caught them both.

Dominic Smith having an OPS over 1.000 is almost as crazy as Alonso.

Wait, isn’t Urias supposed to be suspended for domestic violence?

He’s been reinstated, while the investigation continues. The short version is that MLB hasn’t obtained the security video that allegedly shows the incident, but the police have it and haven’t filed charges, so MLB didn’t really have strong grounds for extending the administrative leave after the initial 7-day period expired. More here.

Dodgers HR-HR-2B-2B ties the game 8-8 in 9th, still no outs.

EDIT: IBB & botched grounder loads the bases.

Edwin Diaz is only allowed to go 3 outs, but he might never get 1 out at this rate.

This is delicious!
