AP: Clemens gets ring, still uncertain about future

Clemens picks up his NL championship ring, says some un-PC stuff:

The Clemens speculation tour came to Minute Maid Park on Tuesday as the Rocket and the rest of last year’s Astros got their NL championship rings. “If I’m going to get out here and decide to do this again, I’d have to really commit to it,” Clemens said. “That’s as far as I’m thinking about right now.”
He felt fine after the World Baseball Classic and left the tournament impressed by the quality of the international teams—and the devotion of the Japanese and South Korean fans. Remembering back to a Japan-South Korea game in Anaheim, Calif., Clemens said he took clothes to a dry cleaners and was told he wouldn’t get them back for nearly a week.

“They said, ‘You’ve got no chance,’ they told me,” Clemens said. “I said, `I’m going to get it tomorrow, right?’ And then she goes, `No chance, we’re going to the game.’ So we couldn’t get dry cleaning done out there, but I guess the neatest thing about them was there were about 50,000 of them at Anaheim Stadium, Korea and Japan.”

Clemens is a great pitcher but he is a racist. This comment isn't that bad but it is just more confirmation of my low opinion of the guy.

Clemens makes insensitive remark about Koreans.

It's crude and not funny, but I don't think this particular comment is ill-intentioned. He's trying to be complimentary, and failing, rather than trying to denigrate somebody. It does confirm that he's not the brightest guy to ever tie his shoelaces.

What was insensitive again?

The article has been altered as it seems that Clemens was not making a generalization. He was simply telling a story about his own dry cleaner, who happens to be Korean.

I still think Clemens is a jerk but the comment he made was not racist.

My bad.

I don't understand why it's seen as a racist comment. He's not making a stupid comment about "Chinese laundries" (or "Korean laundries") in general, he's making a specific comment about an incident that actually happened to him. And he's not trying to put down the owners of the laundry - he's complimenting them (awkwardly, to be sure) on their devotion to their country and the game of baseball.

Oops - I was writing my comment as #4 posted! Sorry about that.

You mean a lot of laundries are owned by Asian people? What a terrible thing to say.

I actually think he's taking a swipe at American fans who are, relatively speaking, not all that energetic in their fandom.

He's a particular kind of hat I can't refer to on new primer.

But I still have stashed away on my fantasy team!
