Arozarena, India claim top rookie hardware

In an unsurprising outcome, Arozarena was named the American League winner and India the National League winner of the Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America in results unveiled Monday night on MLB Network. While the 2021 rookie class included many great performances, the voters recognized that these two particular position players had everyday impact—from Opening Day onward—on two teams with winning records.

Unless you there's a Republic of Fernandu I'm not familiar with, that's a few more than one letter off.

Quite a few English ... only one England who played a couple games in the 1946 NeL and we don't even know his handedness. Scot Thompson and Scot Shields if we continue the stretch to nationality. The entire Chicago W(h)ales if we have no standards whatsoever.

There were a Frank Brazil(l) and a Blas Monaco (8 PA in 1937, 7 in 1946)

Some Solomons and Marshalls if we're gonna accept Cook (we should not)
Andrew Benin(tendi) -- could we be more desperate
Mike Camero(+o)n -- really, this is just cheating
El Salvador Perez -- no, just no

Charlie Chech (1905-09) makes a strong case for inclusion, given that his parents were immigrants from Bohemia.

Egyptian Healy has a lesser case, in that his nickname was probably related to his being from Cairo, IL. and he might have been more commonly known as "Long John" because he was 6'2" in the 1880s-90s.

The nicknames were all coined by ESPN's Chris Burma, now known as Chris Myanmar.
