A’s Michael Taylor Has Been Interning at a Radio Station and No One Knows

Muttering Michael...

Seeing professional athletes do the work of the common person is always entertaining.  There’s something people generally enjoy about watching a guy who makes millions of dollars per year try to conquer the rat race.  A’s outfielder Michael Taylor has done just that.  During the offseason, Taylor has been interning at KNBR radio station in California — the official station of the San Francisco Giants.  He is responsible for walking around and interviewing people on the street for a segment that is called “Whats Bugging You?”  The best part of all is no one really knows who he is.

“I never told anyone he played professionally,” KNBR assistant program director Jenn Violet Kennedy said according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I was walking him around the building saying, ‘This is my intern, Michael,’ or, ‘This is Michael, he needs to fill out some paperwork.’ And everyone would say, ‘OK,’ and keep going.”

That's all sorts of cool right there.

That doesn't quite describe Taylor. They don't pay that much in Sacramento, and even if he makes the Oakland roster this year, he probably won't see 7 figures until 2015.

Right now, he doesn't ever look like he's going to make 7 figures.

Maybe he should be spending his time working on his ####### ability to hit a ####### baseball so Oakland can ever have a player hit more than 19 home runs again.

Ross Ohlendorf (former intern at the United States Department of Agriculture) is unimpressed.

Having a semi-anonymous-sounding name like "Michael Taylor" helps. If he had, say, this guy's name...

Seriously. Why isn't he playing winter ball like every other fringy AAA guy trying is doing? Did he wear down towards the end of last year and need some physical rest?

I love Taylor as a prospect (despite his recent suckitude) and this endears me to him even more.

Q. "What's bugging you?"

A. "That mediocre Athletics outfield..."

Maybe he's already figured out that he's unlikely to make it big in the major leagues and has decided to work towards a career as a broadcaster instead?

Then he should go get us back Carlos Gonzalez then.

Stupid Beane and his web of infinite trades.

And according to Cots his signing bonus (5th round) was only $131,000. So he's got to get the better part of 2 years in the majors before he'll make even $1 M for his career -- poor dear!

Michael Taylor could have been a millionaire out of high school, but he decided he would rather go to Stanford where he saw his draft stock drop quite a bit.

That web of trades got you an even better Gonzalez.
