Astros complain to MLB about taunting, Yankees security bans Oscar the Grouch costume, report says

Sports Illustrated reports the Houston Astros complained to Major League Baseball about taunting by fans this season. This report comes at a time when New York Yankees fans are absolutely crushing the Astros at Yankee Stadium….

But according to SI, one Yankees fan, David Taub, went too far after spending $85 on an Oscar the Grouch costume. Oscar, the lovable, grumpy Sesame Street character, lives in a trash can. You can see where Taub was going with this.

When he arrived wearing the costume and carrying a sign reading YOU AIN’T STEALING THIS COSTUME TRASHTROS, he drew laughs and cameras. Unfortunately, he also drew attention from security. “Our policy changed,” he said the guard told him. Taub said the guard added that the Astros had complained to MLB about fans in other cities, and MLB had told the Yankees to tighten their rules. (Officials from the Astros and the commissioner’s office said they were unaware of any such complaints or directives.) So Taub climbed a hill across the street from the ballpark, balled the costume up and buried it amid a cluster of rocks. He flipped the sign over and scrawled MY FRIEND HAD A SIGN LIKE THIS BUT THE TRASHTROS STOLE IT.

It seems like these are peaceful protests

I think a lot of the stuff surrounding the sign stealing has been seriously overblown but man if the Astros are bothered by the stuff described here they'd better toughen up a bit. God knows I hate the Yankees but that Oscar the Grouch costume and sign is pretty good work. People are booing you Astros. Too bad. Time to suck it up and deal with it.

Oh I thought the Astros were tough guys with an us-against-the-world attitude.

Obviously, the time has come to escalate. Show the Trashtros no mercy.

The Astros have no appreciation for just how hard it is to make these cretins the least unreasonable party in any dispute.

I have to admit, Oscar the Grouch is high quality heckling.

Oh I thought the Astros were tough guys with an us-against-the-world attitude.

"But I admitted I was wrong! You mean you're still mad?"

I seriously doubt the Astros are complaining about the fans. I think it's highly entertaining, and the Oscar the Grouch thing is very funny.
More opposing fans are having fun with this, and isn't baseball supposed to be fun? Hell, the Astros who weren't around in 2017 (which is most of the team) could give a rat's ass about any of this, and the few players that were around aren't going to be bothered by it. For example, Altuve hitting the big homer today while being heckled.

What he didn’t know is those weren’t Yankees security but USPTO enforcement officers responding to a trademark violation complaint from Sesame Workshop.

Okay so the security guard was lying to OTG that the policy changed because the Astros complained? Presumably he WAS acting on orders to remove OTG i.e. the policy DID change, but not because the Astros complained? The guard made that up and threw the Astros players under the bus to protect the Yankees organization? Okay... so why DID the Yankees change the policy? Throwing out OTG is practically un-American.

The guard was not exactly lying, he was just repeating a tall tale. Security guards are not privy to communication between teams and the league office!

It's a great tall tale because it will just spread and spread and almost everybody wants it to be true, but it's also on the harmless end of lies.

"Officials from the (dishonest) Astros and the (incompetent) commissioner’s office said they were unaware of any such complaints or directives." But cheaters cheat, liars lie, and whiners whine. (And buzzers buzz.) So I call b******t. There should be OTG sitting in their dugout for eternity. (Or as long as Shoeless Joe is kept out of the HOF.) These are disgusting cheats we're watching. They should all be made to wear black sox. Chick Gandil had more integrity. If any of them ever come up for HOF consideration they should be automatically disqualified.
