Astros place closer Roberto Osuna on outright waivers

The Astros placed Roberto Osuna on outright waivers Thursday, providing an end to his controversial tenure as the team’s closer.

Osuna appeared in only four games this season before suffering an elbow injury. KRIV-TV reported that an initial diagnosis called for Tommy John surgery, but general manager James Click said in September that the 25-year-old closer had resumed playing catch. Osuna already underwent Tommy John surgery in 2013.

Osuna was eligible for arbitration a fourth time this winter and was an obvious candidate to be non-tendered. He was scheduled to make $10 million last season prior to the proration for a 60-game year. Osuna’s 2021 salary in the arbitration process would have also been around $10 million.

If Osuna clears waivers, he can elect free agency. He finished his Astros career with 51 saves and a 2.45 ERA in 93 appearances.

good riddance to bad rubbish. yes, the trading for a scumbag of that disgustingness was the sign that the FO had gone WAAAY off the deep end. of course, signing a garbage heap like taubman and pimping him was an earlier sign didn't none of us know about. the folks i know associated with the team left around the time he was given a job. the folks i know is good folks and have nothing in common with taubman except skin color and genitals, just not as teensy, i'm sure. and no, i haven't never asked anyone i know about what was really going down in the FO, i wouldn't never ask

in a year, there will only be like 3 players left who were associated with 2017. (altuve, bregman and lance mccullers jr - correa and gurriel will be FA) unless people are going to insist on tarring every player who arrived after the cheating stopped. i hear tell that springer wants to get shut of houston - would guess he's remembering how they tried to get him to sign away his earnings or have to wait to get to the bigs and serve 7 years

unless one of the players writes a tell all like canseco, we won't know how the cheating got started, which players were enthusiastic, which went along with it. did it start with the FO and/or tech guys, or cora/beltran, or some of the players? fiers never said. we already know that reddick and tony kemp said no. i am very sure that cora and beltran were seriously involved
