Athletics starting pitcher Frankie Montas suspended 80 games for positive PED test

Oakland Athletics starter Frankie Montas was suspended 80 games without pay by Major League Baseball after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug. He can return in late September but is ineligible to pitch in the postseason.

The suspension comes on the heels of Thursday’s dramatic 5-4 win in which Matt Chapman hit a two-out, three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays to clinch Oakland’s fourth straight win. Montas started the game, allowing just one run on four hits in eight innings with nine strikeouts.

“I am deeply saddened to confirm that MLB recently notified me I have tested positive for Ostarine, a prohibited substance under MLB’s Joint Drug Agreement,” Montas said in a statement through the MLB Players Association. “

Wouldn't it be nice if just once a guy could be like Canseco and just say "yep, I used it and got caught. Thought I could get away with it but nope, not this time". Instead of the usual "it was a contaminated supplement" thing they keep saying.

I don't see anybody testing the juiced baseballs.

I don't want to encourage anyone here but some Ostarine on top of your weed is quite the magical combo.

Damn, I’ve always been a huge Montas fan. Remember seeing him when he was in Lo A in Spring Training with the Red Sox and I threw a bit of a fit when they traded him in the Peavy deal. Peavy was a ton of fun and had a bunch of big moments for the Sox in 2013 though so It was hard to complain.

I unfortunately and unknowingly ingested a contaminated supplement that I had purchased over the counter at a nutrition store here in the United States.

How does he know its the unnamed substance from an unnamed store and not some contaminated cauliflower?

Tough year for the Red Sox, that one.

Maybe, but the motivations are pretty obvious. Anti-steroids types will never forgive you under any circumstances, and the rest don't really begrudge you not wanting to admit liability for legal reasons or whatever. So, you're pretty much forced to take the "Jeez, it wasn't my fault, not sure how it happened" tack.

Montas wasn't juicing. He just got better at centering the pill.

TJ Dillashaw pretty much did that after he got caught.

- if he had the bottles and the receipts

all athletes aren't brent suter, you know. and supplement companies LIE about the contents or call it something else. even if his angry ex-sexual companion put something in his food without his knowledge, he would STILL be suspended

FTFA:

He also said that when he used EPO, it basically brought him back in line with his normal levels, not something beyond what is naturally occurring in the human body.

He got 3/4 of the way there, at least. But yes, that's 3/4 of the way farther than most athletes get.
