Atlanta Braves acquire Orlando Arcia in trade with Milwaukee Brewers, source says

The Atlanta Braves acquired versatile infielder Orlando Arcia from the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Arcia, 26, has spent all six of his major league seasons with Milwaukee. He has one hit in 11 at-bats this season, and he had a .260 batting average in 2020 with 5 home runs and 20 RBIs.

He has mostly played as a shortstop but has also seen time at third base and in the outfield.

Overall, he has a career .244 batting average with 42 home runs, 180 RBIs and 39 stolen bases.

Not a bad move by Braves. Those two guys were going nowhere and who knows, maybe Arcia can still turn a corner.

Are the Braves down on Swanson?

Not that anyone has said. Their bench is a catastrophe, and Arcia is probably an upgrade on Ehire Adrianza and definitely an upgrade on Johan Camargo.

The Breweers seem really weird right now. They trade off Grisham to get Luis Urias who I know was a bit of a prospect but also so far has the same track record as Arcia and is only two years younger. They sign Wong forcing them to move Hiura to 1B; they're carrying the pretty much useless if he's not playing against every RHP Vogelbach to the bench; they have an OF of Yelich, Cain and Avisail Garcia but sign Bradley. Now they trade Arcia which seems to give the starting 3B job back to Travis Shaw. Or are they going to try Hiura at 3B? (he's never played it)

They still look like a decent enough team by NLC standards, especially if this Corbin Burnes guy is for real, but it seems a lot of re-arranging of redundant deck chairs.
