Bartolo Colon, 50, has officially retired from baseball, Z101’s Hector Gomez reported.
The right-hander, whose Major League career spanned 21 seasons, joined the Mets in 2014 and became a dependable part of the rotation for three seasons.
He threw 31-plus starts each year, with his best statistical season coming in 2016 when he finished 15-8 with a 3.43 ERA and earned his fourth and final All-Star Game selection.

1. The Yankee Clapper Posted: June 03, 2023 at 10:22 PM (#6131444)That's always been one of the attractions of baseball is that you don't have to necessarily be an athlete (or look like an athlete) to play the game at a high level. Probably more true for pitchers than hitters.

If I were coaching young pitchers, I'd have them watch Old Bart in action. Four-seam, two-seam, cutter, hitting all four quadrants of the strike zone, topping out at 91. No 100+ heat, no breaking balls, no extraneous motion, just throwing to the catcher's target.
A fat tub of goo who was a .400 hitter until his final year in the NL.

I assume it was during injury recovery which in my mind is a co
Platelet different thing than using it while active.
as a Met, Colon had two families.
the wife and their 4 kids lived in Clifton, NJ.
the mistress and their 2 kids lived a (in theory only, mostly) modest GW Bridge ride away in Washington Heights in upper Manhattan (trivial: my Dad's last FDNY job was as Battalion Chief in a firehouse there).
the wife apparently was aware of the "arrangement," and afaik they are still married.
he met the mistress at his favorite restaurant - she was his favorite waitress.
Love us a wonderful thing.
The positive test (and 50-game suspension) for synthetic testosterone also helped ID him as a PED dabbler.

On the other end, guys like Altuve also make baseball stand out as a skill over athleticism sport
You don't think Altuve is athletic?
- "love" - pls
you mean large quantities of $$$ and living in luxury while agreeing to pretend your kids father actually loves you
Dude is cheaping out on the homestead to pay his mistresss's rent in gentrifying Washington Heights--not a good look.
Maybe she has a rent-stabilized place though?
:)
Maybe BALCO offered to make him a box of The Cream filled donuts.
You should be banned as I'm never going to get all of that milk out of my keyboard.
Love is very complicated and very expensive...
