Mike was completely wrong, obviously. Hirsh, a once promising prospect in the Astros organization, was dealt from the Rockies to the Yankees on July 29.
Realizing his mistake, Mike was forced to right the wrong after he returned from break.

I confess that I'd never heard of Jason Hirsh either, before now.
Of course, I don't confess that it's difficult to look him up.
And I'm also not the host of an afternoon radio show in New York for 6 hours a day, as the self-anointed expert on all things Yankees.
In fairness to Francesa, though, Hirsh has only been in the Yankee organization in time to make a couple of starts. But while that may excuse not knowing who Hirsh is, it doesn't excuse building an argument around the fact that you don't know who he is.

Hirsh looked sharp when I saw him make his Scranton/WB debut. He could make a capable fifth starter down the stretch.

"I was here before Ryan Church was here, and I will be here after he is gone."
You can't say Francesa can't predict the future.

Man, people have too much time on their hands. He made a mistake, and owned up. Sheesh.

He's heard of Sandy Kovacs!

Having now watched the video, I agree it's much ado about nothing. Francesa simply hadn't heard of the guy, and was thinking that the caller may have just made up the name to trick him. The caller even did say "picked him up at the trading deadline," which basically implies that he was on the major league squad.

He's got 9 Ks and 1 BB for Scranton in 11 IP so far. I'd like to see him get a chance to contribute. Is he a free agent after the season? If not, he'd be a great arm to have lying around as depth next year.

I don't see at all how it's much ado about nothing. Sure, in the long run Hirsh will probably be completely forgotten. But Francesa is paid to be a New York sports expert. Nevertheless he hangs up on someone feeding him a name he doesn't know (and obviously understood) because he's so afraid of being Thrifted. He just got traded to the Yankees a couple weeks ago. He might be their 7th or 8th starter right now? at a time when there's a lot of talk about who will fill the back of the rotation. Francesa doesn't know #### about him and embarrassed himself because he was so afraid of embarrassing himself.

Later on a caller wanted to talk to Francesspool...about Shane Victorino in CF getting thrown out of a game by the home plate umpire for arguing.
Mike the baseball expert said he hadn't heard about the play.
Jeez, give Belinda the round counter girl at Subway a break one day...and find your computers On button.
For the pooh-poohers, just three years ago, Hirsh was the Astros' #1 prospect according to BA and top 50 in baseball heading into the 2007 season. His 2006 AAA line: 13-2, 2.10 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 and 2.31 K/BB. I've certainly heard of him and noticed when the Yankees picked him up, and I don't get paid millions of dollars plus unlimited quantities of Diet Coke to pay attention to baseball (and the Yankees, in particular).
I'm a Red Sox fan who gets paid to keep the accounting records of a software company in a Boston suburb and I knew the Yankees had picked up Jason Hirsh and that he was at one time a highly rated prospect.
I don't know any more than that but if I know that much I don't think it's too much for a professional reporter to know that much as well. I'm not saying Francessa should have known Hirsh's life story but being able to identify him as a RHP for the Yankees AAA team doesn't seem like it should be a tall order.
