Blue Jays may call Dunedin home to start season

The Blue Jays could join the Raptors as Toronto teams making their temporary regular-season home in the Tampa Bay area.

If coronavirus travel restrictions prevent the Jays from returning home for the start of the major-league season in April, their most likely option appears to be playing at their spring training stadium in Dunedin.

In doing so, the Jays would have use of TD Ballpark stadium, which re-opened in spring 2020 after extensive upgrades, as well as their recently completed state-of-the-art player development center, which has major-league training, medical and conditioning facilities and equipment.

The team has had preliminary talks about the plan with Dunedin officials, and the city is eager to help out if needed.

I was seeing some games in Florida, and driving to the Dunedin ballpark. Stopped at a red light, I saw a tall, beautiful blonde woman holding a little boy by the hand. She looked toward me, her eyes grew wide, she made a little gesture to her forehead. I was wearing my Pirate cap - she was asking if I was a ballplayer. I made a self-deprecating little smile and shake of the head. The light changed, and I rolled on through. That must be about 33 years ago.

She is now 59, weighs 175 lbs, been married 3 times, has 4 kids from 2 different fathers and works at the checkout at Walmart. Kid is doing a stint of 7 years in the Miami-Dade facility for a trafficable amount of narcotics.....

So she may be economically well off and can afford a personal trainer on a daily basis and has had extensive plastic surgery? Perhaps that could be the outcome.

Of the 1988 Pirates I probably would have been closest to resembling Andy Van Slyke, who is a distant cousin. But he's 10 years older, was one of the most recognizable players on the team at the time, and I didn't look that much like him.

I might have been able to pass for Spanky, I think I even had my bad mustache around that time. But then if she'd seen Spanky in a Pirates cap, she might not have thought he was a ballplayer. When in doubt, always go with the backup C -- nobody's gonna know what that guy looks like. Hi, I'm Tom Prince.
